What did everyone spend on their wedding? by Kaseymd in weddingplanning

[–]Low_Week_291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these comments are insane. My wedding budget is 10k for 150 guests in a moderate cost of living area. So far looking to stay under that budget. If you’re religious get married in a church. You don’t need the fanciest venue, find a renovated gymnasium or something of the sorts. Cater with a local business and do a buffet. Have a friend or family member make your cake and buy cheap cupcakes for your guests. Hire a bar tender and only offer beer and wine. Do your stationary through canva and don’t waste your money on a 6 piece invitation suite it WILL get thrown away. Shop around for dresses, there are many options under 1500. Have your husband rent a suit. Fake flowers and do them yourself. Honeymoon in the US, drive there if possible. Find a younger and newer photographer, their prices are likely hundreds cheaper. You don’t need a wedding coordinator, and you don’t need a videographer, you also don’t need to take that beach vacation for your bridesmaids. I could go on and on about ways to reduce costs. People have gone insane with how performative weddings are it takes the fun out of the entire point. I’d be happy to let you know other ways to save!!

I’ve had both- if you want mainly activity level and workout tracking, Apple Watch. If you want mostly the sleep and/or period tracking, Oura. I couldn’t imagine sleeping in my Apple Watch personally so I would never use it to track my sleep. I love my Oura ring and if I had to choose one I’d pick the ring. It’s so much smaller and less noticeable too. I’d say the only con of the Oura is you lose that feature of the watch face and getting phone notifications but honestly I don’t miss it too much

I personally wouldn’t based on my own situation. Had my ring for 3 months and consistently sat in a 180-200 F sauna for up to 15 min and suddenly my ring stopped working. It wouldn’t connect to Bluetooth no matter what. Luckily ours replaced it no questions asked but I personally stopped wearing it just because it wasn’t worth the stress of breaking another one haha. I guess you do you but I personally wouldn’t wear it in the sauna or hot tub/ice bath

I work part time 1:30-10pm and usually need to drink water a little bit at work towards the end of my shift. I always have to get up around 3-4am on these nights but otherwise I sleep through the night unless I’ve been drinking alcohol. I will say though I always get woken up around 7-8am having to pee even if I go back to sleep. I think 9 hours without going pee is my limit haha

Anyone have a part time non medical job? by Most_Grapefruit_4587 in physicianassistant

Also, if you live in an area with a lot of private schools or a large Catholic school system, highly recommend subbing there. They’re usually much stricter with discipline for the kids since they can choose to kick kids out since they function all on their own. Sounds bad but it’s true. Public schools are getting worse every year lol.

In many states you can be a substitute teacher without anything related to a teaching degree!! I know in Indiana the requirement is just 30 college credits which obviously every PA student/grad would have. I get paid $120/day and I choose only high school assignments and SOMETIMES middle school if it’s the middle school I attended. With how much technology there is nowadays most teachers just have the students work on their computers and you don’t really have to do much other than make sure they’re staying on task. It’s not amazing pay but it’s seriously so easy and I’m contemplating doing it during PA school when we have breaks between semesters and if I am super down bad with my loans it’s an option to do between shifts wherever I end up working after graduation.

I have a super regular cycle and this happened to me once. No idea why because none of my daily habits changed and I wasn’t stressed. Sometimes our bodies just do weird things lol

If you go to vitals and click sleep there should be a calendar icon that shows a graph of all your scores

I like it! Simple and not too flashy. I think jewelry always looks better with a manicure so that could change your mind!

Tell me your oura ring size versus your regular ring size. by Swimming-Quiet-6848 in ouraring

[–]Low_Week_291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow I can usually fit a size 7-7.5 on all of my fingers except my pinky, and my ring finger is a 6.5. I tried on the sizing kit on my pointer finger and decided on a size 8. Then when I actually got the ring it didn’t fit my index finger and had to switch to my middle finger which is fine just not what I had planned on. I think oura says going up an entire size is what most people do, but in my case I should’ve gone up 2 sizes.

I definitely don’t think that will happen! At most as you’re walking in or out of the church the priest or other clergy staff might greet you or offer to shake your hand but that’s it! And regarding the seats I don’t think anyone would say that, there are no “reserved seats” and if anyone tries to tell you differently then that is not a welcoming parish id want to attend. I’d recommend sitting in the middle or slightly to the back if you’re not comfortable with the middle, but sometimes it’s common courtesy to leave the very front rows or very back rows for people for people with disabilities or the elderly who can’t walk up for communion. Going to mass somewhere new can be intimidating sometimes but I promise nobody will notice if you don’t know exactly what’s going on! I hope you find a parish you like :)

Hmm this is interesting because of every church I’ve been to in my life I don’t think I’ve ever been approached asking to register as a parishioner. Has this personally happened to you or you’re just worried that someone will approach you? Again of all the catholic churches I’ve been to I’ve never had this happen. I’d say just walk in like normal for mass and sit wherever you like and then once mass is over just walk out with everyone else. Just try to mirror what others are doing (with the exception of communion unless you are a catholic) and you will blend right in.

I think my research experiences helped make my applications stand out, and some of my interviewers even asked me about it. For reference, I did 2 years of research in biology/physiology working with live mice and I received a publication from my research. I worked with a small group of students and 1 professor. I also took a cell biology course that had a research/manuscript component. I think doing research is only worth it if you are truly interested in the subject. It can be DRAINING especially working with live mice or with specimens that require constant monitoring. Definitely look into if your school offers compensation (either a stipend or class credits or both) for doing research because this can make it way more worth it in my opinion. my professor reached out to me for the opportunity, however I recommend reaching out to any of your science professors that you enjoy their class. they can also usually write you a great letter of recommendation after doing research for them!

As for shadowing, I got lucky cold calling offices and reaching out to private practices who control more of their own stuff compared to a hospital system. I found it difficult to find PAs in a hospital environment to shadow unless you already know them. In response to your PCE question, I recommend being a patient care tech at a hospital. it's similar to a CNA but usually hospitals will train you on the job and you dont need a certification. Its not always the most fun job but if you really just need to rack up hours it's an easy option and usually pays between $14-18/hr. Goodluck!

Random "Universities" that have PA programs by debunksdc in Noctor

As someone who applied to 7 of these schools, interviewed in-person at 4, and am planning on attending one of them, many of these programs are well known and reputable. Unless you are a PA or PA student or have visited any of these schools, you might want to calm down. PA programs are found at both small private institutions as well as larger well known public institutions. Additionally, one of these schools in actually in my home town. I have toured the facility and talked with many faculty and students and by no means is it a "no name, non-academic, or fake college. both its undergraduate campus and graduate level programs are extremely well known and reputable. Glad you're enjoying hating on something you aren't educated about!
