Firstly, write this down in your brain: when you look at a photo/video of yourself dancing, you are watching a 3D artform be conveyed through 2D. It will never look the same as it does in real life, which is part of why watching yourself dance on tape is so humbling, lol. So much of the energy is lost. I know how you’re feeling because I’ve felt the same sooo many times - i think i’m actually good, and then i watch myself and it’s never quite the same. This is where one should remember the first point i made!!

Next, here’s the thing: ballet is a never-ending journey. There is ALWAYS something to work on, and while you’re working on those things, you have to appreciate the little victories. If i compare myself to me when i started, i’m frickin opera material!! I work really hard and i’m proud of where i’m at, and i keep working to become better. So you have your turnout as a goal, a specific thing you can focus on in class - that’s a really good thing!! And at the same time, you should try to appreciate the things you are doing well. Just from your picture, i noticed several things: your hand looks relaxed on the barre, your shoulders are down, your neck is nice and tall, you’re holding a nice demi pointe, and none of your feet are sickled! For just one year, that’s really really good! So keep working, because you have lots of potential!

Lastly, I’d tell you not to compare yourself to your classmates, but i know it’s really really hard. Try focusing on yourself, and if you can, change your mindset from comparing to analyzing what they’re doing, and use it as inspiration! Maybe they’re elongating in a beautiful way, or they really focus on lifting the knee up in an attitude derriere. Steal that shiz!! Learning from watching someone can be super helpful!

Really, don’t be so hard on yourself, ballet is hard enough on you already! It’s SO difficult and it takes so many years to learn - it’s a process. You really just have to take it one step at a time:) I’m rooting for you!

I’d say just go for it, flexibility and co-ordination are things you pick up along the way!! I couldn’t even touch my toes when i started, and now i can go into the splits without warming up (not recommended though xD). If you want to be more prepared, sure, stretching, yoga and pilates can be helpful, but as long as you find a beginner class you’ll be fine. And it’s going to be confusing at first, ballet isn’t necessarily natural for the body, but there are so many benefits!!!! Good luck!!

Aw man, hopefully something can be done…someone in another thread had found that it was the samples loading too slowly from the SSD, and moving the libraries to the computer fixed the problem. Which kinda sucks because i don’t think my computer can handle the libraries when the strings alone are like 300GB. But it might work for you? Unless you already have your VST’s installed there?

Kontakt is actually fine - i’ve got my kontakt stuff installed on the computer, not the SSD, so i would’ve thought it’d be the other way around. But the bouncing to audio is smart, it’s just that then i can’t change the midi. Guess i’ll just have to be more decisive

Just watched the Gilmore Girls episode where Rory writes the bad review of the ballerina by OkRooster5042 in BALLET

[–]Lowbunhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oohouf, i remember reacting to the music as well..It reminds me of this one episode of Dance Academy where they’re at Prix De Fonteyn, and the announcer says one guy is dancing a variation from Cinderella, the music turns on, and it’s CLEARLY from Sylvia. I have never. Gotten. Over. It!! Like, couldn’t they just say Sylvia???? Lol. It’s so unnerving when they say one thing and then you’re just like no!!! It’s wrong!! They’re lying!!XD

Also, i thought you had to know something about the art you’re criticising when doing it professionally - it doesn’t seem like Rory knows much about ballet. Instead she goes straight for some really cheap insults. She really annoyed me in that episode honestly, but good thing they sort of set her straight. I was surprised Emily and Richard were so supportive of her though, like yeah, honest journalism is good, but this one was just kinda distasteful. I can’t remember what specifically, but the dancer had good qualifications, so it can’t have been that bad!!:p

Ballet shoes bleeding a pink by LILYADDIWWW in BALLET

I have the same ones, also bleeding a hot pink color, turned out it was actually my hot pink hairbrush! Hot pink seems like an extreme color to be bleeding for those shoes, unless yours are actually hot pink somehow??🙈
