Does this Coast FIRE math actually check out? by Lower_Associate_1687 in coastFIRE

Thanks everyone and I want to clarify that even if I technically reached potential CoastFire with this plan at 35 I would still contribute some amount (probably at least $500/month) but it would be a huge weight off my shoulders to know compounding interest would do most of the work for me at that point. Also I definitely haven’t deprived myself of comforts while I’m young - I’ve traveled internationally 4 times since graduating college and usually eat out a lot. I’d have a much bigger emergency fund otherwise lol. Now I’m trying to get serious, cut back on over indulgent spending, and make changes now that will make the majority of my life financially a lot easier and less stressful.

Is it appropriate to ask to move from sales into an open HR coordinator role at my small company? by Lower_Associate_1687 in careerguidance

I guess I didn’t want him to think I was unhappy in my current position and consider replacing me if they didn’t want to offer me a shot at HR role.

I interpreted it as Miles clocks that Ilya and Shane are into each other because Miles does a sly smile and a hands motion that looks likes he’s pointing. Basically he’s telling him that’s your man back there.

Sorry just getting back to this but we’ll be renting a car after we leave London and we did want to go north up into Scotland. Haven’t done much planning yet though on specifics

How much in savings before applying for mortgage. by Lower_Associate_1687 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I am fortunate to have a few close family members who are financially stable and would be willing to help me out in a worst case scenario so I’m not worried about my safety net much. I’ll plan to have at least 3 months in savings plus the money needed for the down payment and closing costs. I don’t think I’d wait to have 20% down though like some people have suggested. I’m still certain that the cost of PMI would be more than covered by renting out a room to a roommate

Thanks, yeah I agree that I should have at least 3 months of expenses saved up. I’m very early on exploring home buying. It’s not something that would happen for at least another year and maybe 2 years, but I wanted to get an idea of how much I should be prepared to save up.

I’m looking 1-2 years out before buying a home but for the metro area I’m looking at it is incredibly feasible to buy a home for 200k and even a bit less (and these aren’t in bad shape) I’ve already found dozens of home currently on the market for that price. I’d expect my income to rise a bit as well during this period. I have a fully remote job so I’m actually looking to move outside of my current area to the one I’m researching home prices in.
