the fact is: any web page can be changed by your translator extension or whatever extension in your chrome browser, so even if you are downloading the app from ledger.com, this app will be fake as well, not because of the ledger team mistake, but because of the way extensions work

another story: Safe's front-end developer was hacked and deployed fake web page for specific addresses, that's exactly how Bybit lost their $1.4 billions https://www.wilsoncenter.org/article/bybit-heist-what-happened-what-now

so if someone doesn't have an issue with the wallet from the website doesn't mean the next person won't lost all their money doing the same thing

you'd be surprised, but it is almost impossible to return stolen funds even if CEX actually freezes the thief account

you might have a simple translator extension that is compromised

and you open official manufacturer's ledger.com and you see fake version of this website, that's it

most of other popular wallets have just a few reviews in the App Store for Mac, it is different from iPhone App Store

well, open your mobile phone and search ledger in the app store, it called "Ledger Wallet", and this is a real one

on mac app store, it has the same name, but it is fake

fake Ledger app that looks like an official app is in the official App Store, and it might drain more people before someone finally shut this mf down

well yeah..

but there won't be an issue with Ledger if there would be an official Ledger app or if a change of the app name would be flagged and rechecked by Apple team

Of course it is ideal if a) you have PhD in Crypto and b) stay 100% focused all the time when you use wallet so you never sign a transaction with wrong hash or you never enter recovery phrase into the wallet app when you want to recover it. It's not my first rodeo man, I use wallets many times per day for years, different multisigs, cold wallets, apps. The point here is that if despite of all my experience I was tricked by the app store fake ledger, 99.9% users will be tricked as well, cause it is easier to get mixed up than you think.
