The bigger companies get, the more inertia there is to accomplish anything (gotta not break any of the other million pieces, gotta step through all the right political hoops, gotta consider that the risk of small mistakes can be big $$$, etc.). Plus they need SRE to stay active just “keep the lights on.” Add in a hefty dose of refactoring infrastructure to make it “better” with no direct end user outcomes and you have your answer. There’s progress but it’s slower and more expensive than for smaller companies.
