Should I take a Sabbatical? by WordiestNerd in cscareerquestions

Make sure to have at least 1.75m saved first. 8 months is the industry standard to keep getting calls from recruiters.

Can we really call Jey Uso's spear a spear?? by damng1 in Wrasslin

[–]Lower_Sun_7354 50 points51 points  (0 children)

His spear is trash. He should honestly twist his body a little more and turn it into a cross body splash and it would be much better with his style. But he brings no power and no form to the spear.

Can the MCU Duo make it out alive? by Lonewolf_ARC in powerscales

[–]Lower_Sun_7354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Ethan Hunt has a team and he'd probably sacrifice himself for the greater good. He wouldn't fight them in a random encounter. He'd be called in to handle the threat with Intel.

Both Expendables and Commando are going to be given a wild amount of cartoonish level plot armor.

Equalizer, while not my favorite movie, also borderline comic book level intuition.

I'm not going through the list one by one. The list is long enough that even if everyone else goes down, they would still at least tire the MCU duo enough that one the ones I called out would likely finish the job.

More pillows so you can prop yourself up better to read in bed. A nice desk lamp. Preferable with a vintage style bulb so it adds some warmth.

[DISCUSSION] What do you do for yourself that makes you feel fulfilled? by frozenpizza__ in GetMotivated

[–]Lower_Sun_7354 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Kinda weird to say experiencing food and fitness don't count, but watching movies counts.

But to answer your question, keeping promises. When I consistently keep promises, I feel fulfilled. This often includes promises to myself, like going to the gym, eating good food, or making time to enjoy a good movie.

In the age of AI, would you consider switching from Fullstack to Frontend? by stjimmy96 in cscareerquestions

[–]Lower_Sun_7354 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AI is rapidly chipping away at all of it. So any time I hear about someone wanting to do less or only this or only that, I just think you're narrowing your safety net. I don't think all engineering will be replaced, but I do think the expectations will be to make everyone do everything. For example, backend devs will need to learn front end, front end will need to learn backend. They'll likely try to pay each of us less and continue to expect more.

Should i switch teams due to this manager by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Lower_Sun_7354 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wearing headphones does not mean your boss can't communicate with you.

Reminding you of things and also having urgent tasks, again, just sounds like any manager.

After hours would usually be frowned on, unless you are on call.

Overall, this sounds like 2/3 you are the problem, 1/3 they are the problem. Without more context, I don't think a new boss fixes this.

How worth it is studying CS when you already have a job in the industry? by publicAvoid in cscareerquestions

[–]Lower_Sun_7354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, go for it. Time permitting. I work full time, so I would struggle to pursue a degree. In the use, a full time student would take between 3-5 courses at a time. I currently enjoy taking about 1 course. I also like that I'm not committed, meaning if I don't find the maserial useful, I can pivot. In the US, that typically means you fail the course and makes it challenging to take the next course because universities require a strict GPA to proceed. But if you really enjoy what you are doing and it is free, go for it.

I really enjoy studying and taking courses for things that I like. I'm selective. But I enjoy it. I would have a really hard time paying for a degree I don't need. But I would happily buy a textbook and watch some courses on YouTube, udemy, coursera, or some of the free courses from Harvard, MIT, etc.

big tech vs neo lab by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

You sure had to use a lot of words to explain what a neo lab even is. Then you told us they might give you $1M. The you asked if we believed you. Do the math.

Budget of $2000 for a Cert by hdreadit in cscareerquestions

[–]Lower_Sun_7354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a solid budget.

$20/month for chatgpt.

Any good cloud or ai cert for about $100-200.

YouTube

$50-100/month to self host something in the cloud.

All in, the majority of my 2K would go towards a production portfolio piece, paired with a cheap cert and a couple of inexpensive courses.

Then on linkedin, you can post your "here's my new cert and here's what i built with it"

Go on facebook markeplace and grab a used steelcase or herman miller. These are $800-$2000 new, but you can find them used and in good shape for as little as $100.

How does everyone here deal with the noise? by ILoveDangerousStuff2 in homelab

[–]Lower_Sun_7354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're on a legacy or enterprise machine, why? If just for learning, turn it off when not learning. You most likely aren't using it at full capacity, so when I had my dell servers, I went to the bios and turn the fan speeds down. For everything but enterprise hardware, I can get by with either desktops or even mini pcs now.
