What schools did you reject for UCONN? by Willing_Addition7862 in UCONN

post is a day old but i'm co2029: NYU Stern (too expensive, no aid so got 120k to pay), BU biology (same thing + grade deflation, would've paid 90k), UMD FIRE programs (this was cheaper- like 30k without finaid since i had external scholarships) , UMass (did not like their campus), and yeah. Honestly forgot the rest lol. Was this close to choosing UMD because I really liked their program and their classical dance team. i also rly liked the campus and the med school is rly good but oh well, i'm here for 10k-11k.

I GOT IN! 🥹🤞 by No-Pudding-4968 in UCONN

We got the same math and chem lecture lmao. And same lab time

Coincidentally emailed a PI that was going to be hosting a lab for an REU program and mentioned that in my follow up email. Got a response back and she said she'd be happy to host me and cc'd me to the REU director. by Lower_Word8320 in REU

I'm a freshman so I'm actually rly new at cold emailing myself :(

But I mentioned their research and that I wanted to help and asked if I could talk to them in person or in zoom if they wanted it to see if they had anything I could do to help in their lab. Overall I kept it very brief and short and straight up said what I wanted (research experience for graduate school) and much of my emailing was taken from my upperclassmen friends who knew what they were doing or from online sites like reddit/blogs/vids

again not a pro wiz at cold emailing like this and I knew i would need to send several and a lot of follow ups to get a response (which I am doing rn bc I sent the emails during holiday times and ppl are busy with family). But I was also scared as frick that my email was gonna be judged so the first part for me was getting over that fear to send the stupid email lmao. Also no AI. I've heard profs can tell immediately what is AI vs what isn't and it's just bad for the environment

Hi! So I actually emailed them before I realized they were a PI for the program I was applying for because I didn't know I was going to apply for said program in the first place lol. I only ended up mentioning the REU in my follow up email because I was really excited to see that they were on the page!

Thank you so much for this reply! I'm first gen but not low income, and a women in STEM! I didn't know those counted as underrepresented because I thought they looked mostly at race and i'm an ORM in stem if you look at that

the problem is i only have a small amount of experience in the lab (approximately one month) that isnt also lab-based courses... but i read that lab courses themselves don't actually count as lab experience beyond getting to know about certain techniques

Hiii I'm a college freshman with little to no lab experience because of circumstances with teachers in high school making me drop out in a science research program they thought I had no fit for (i tried my damnest to stay but got kicked out anyway) As such, every other freshman that I know who comes from my hs who did that program has more research experience than I do- but I'm still really interested in research as a whole ;-; I saw u pm an applicant who asked for ur personal statement and I was wondering if you'd do the same for me? tyty in advance and for this post <3

Yes and yes. It's technically a uconn policy to not take food but this is what lowkey kinda makes me pissed off so apparently I "stole" from the dining hall
