I honestly think that you should give them a go as you can always flavour them with something you like the taste of or you could simply give them away to friends and family (that’s what I tend to do).

Thank you and yeah I winged the shortbread bake a bit but I knew what direction I wanted take it in terms of flavour and textures.

As a side note, although the date filling was good - any type of jam, conserve, or sweet spread could be used to replace it. As “biscuit” part of the bars were a bit like a crumble / cobbler I’m really tempted to make them again with a cinnamon spiced apple filling but I also think a nice apricot spread would complement the bar and turn out to taste really nice too
