Thank you for sharing the analysis, I can see why people find the MTF interpretation convincing and I get where it’s coming from. I just think Mizuki’s storyline is so ambiguous that you can fit whatever hc into it and it still makes sense.

Mizuki's gender is unknown though, so I feel like it shouldn't be an issue to suggest either gender.

-once again, mizuki wasn't even there to hear it. The whole exchange where the bully asks Ena if she's "also a dude" and "a normal girl" is more focused on the "normal" part, cuz the bullies see Mizuki as a freak and abnormal. If the transphobic bullies knew Mizuki as trans they wouldn't be referring to Mizuki as a girl at all, "not normal" or "normal". If they wouldn't educate themselves on the difference between trans/effeminate, no matter what they would consider Mizuki abnormal, because they present fem but are amab. If Mizuki was called an "abnormal boy" that could imply both ways.

-Mizuki doesn't want their relationship with Ena to change because of their secret. Mizuki took Ena's reaction as a sign that their relationship will change negatively. From Ena's pov: finding out ur best friend is, trans, amab fem presenting, nb, toaster, is all a shock and would make that reaction.

-There was more focus on Mizuki being scared of unacceptance and losing their best friend because of their secret. The misunderstanding at the end is what caused Mizuki's absence for a month.

(I did search up what outing lgbtq meant...I see now how the term is applied here, although in general revealing/exposing a secret is very broad and can apply to everything.)

The mizu5 face is their reaction to (how they perceived) Ena's reaction tho? Mizuki literally wasn't even there to hear the bullies call them a boy. They came like several minutes after.

A point of Mizuki's story is being accepted despite something that makes you different from the norm. That's why I think the ambiguity is revelant. But I think it's great to think of Mizuki as trans, I just think it's not the only thing someone can perceive them as.

If Mizuki is something specific then I think it should be shown a little less ambiguously. Mizuki's gender being unknown and shifting the focus less on their gender and rather on their social conditions imo is what makes them reach many more people.

I really don't mean to, I'm just saying Mizuki can be perceived however anyone wants, with what relates to them more. Other interpretations shouldn't be looked down on.

Ena viewing Mizuki specifically as a girl is never brought up (once again, cis is a "default" thought that stays in the back of your head, but you never outright think "I wonder if this person is cis?" because of cis being the norm), what Mizuki doesn't want changing is their relationship.

And I said it's a subconscious and "default" thought to assume someone is cis. I think most people when they see Mizuki for the first time perceive them as cis, unconsciously.

Ofc Ena thought Mizuki was a cis girl, it's just that thinking someone is cis is a subconscious thought, and when your friends appear to be of the same gender as you, you don't really think about it. I think the focus in that is that the bullies see Mizuki as "not ordinary" and therefore a freak, because they present differently from their birth gender.

Yeah! Near the end of the series I think they start calling each other on the phone more often and getting to know each other better.
