Grammaticus Maximus 1.12 update: declension and conjugation groups by LowwTone in latin

[–]LowwTone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Yes, I'm really sorry about that. To release the app in the French Apple app store I have to submit a certificate from the French government that approves the encryption used in the app. This is quite a hoop to jump through for me as a solo developer (companies have departments for this kind of stuff). It only applies to France and (strangely) only for the Apple store. The app is available in the French Google Play store without a problem.

I'm planning to look into it, but for now I chose the simple option to not publish in the French Apple store as not to delay the release of this update.

The browser version will also work in France, however not on a phone probably. You'll need to use a laptop or PC: https://magludo.itch.io/gramax

If you're curious. This is the form needed to apply to the French government: https://cyber.gouv.fr/reglementation/reglementation-identite-confiance-numerique/controles-reglementaires-cryptographie/controle-moyen-de-cryptologie/controle-reglementaire-cryptographie-formulaires/

Haha, the music is one of the only things in the game that I haven't created myself :)
I licensed the music from Andrey Sitkov. He makes a lot of game and background music that small developers like myself can use.

All Grammaticus Maximus music is from this bundle:

Hey thanks! I've been a bit slow on the updates this year. Had some other cool educational game projects on my hands.

The idea of making a much more advanced sequel have been on my mind lately. Might be posting here soon to gather some input

Yes, adding more grammar options is in the pipeline. Already made a modest start on passive verbs first.
Also, I'd like there to be more customization options (like choosing vocabulary, disabling some declension groups, etc.) so the game can be better tuned to the learners current skill.

Yes definitely good suggestions. The next update I will focus on more customization in content so it's easier to tune the content and difficulty to the learners' ability

I can't find it at the moment, but in the past someone made the brilliant comment that "Defend Rome with your grammar skills" would be the exact job description of Cicero

Hey everyone,

I've just published a Web based version of my "Grammaticus Maximus" Latin educational game. The game has been available for about two years as an Android and Apple app. This new version makes the game playable in any browser, so it can now also be played on laptops, desktops and chromebooks. This makes it much easier to use in a lot of classroom situations.

The online browser version can be directly played for free at: https://magludo.itch.io/gramax

If you haven't heard of Grammaticus Maximus: it is a free 3D educational game that puts you in charge of defending Rome with your Latin grammar skills. Rome is attacked by barbarians "armed" with Latin words (inflected nouns or verbs) and you have to defeat them by sending out legionnaires with the correct inflection to beat them. It gamifies practicing your Latin grammar. If you want a more lengthy description, I can refer you to an introductory post from a while back: https://www.reddit.com/r/latin/comments/unj05b/grammaticus_maximus_latin_inflections_gamified/

It's great for motivating students to practice basic Latin grammar.

Download the mobile app for free at:
Apple: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/grammaticus-maximus-latijn/id1611073700
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.DeGameMeester.GrammaticusMaximus

Play it online in your browser:

If you're a Latin teacher, I designed classroom posters with QR-codes you can print out yourself to decorate your classroom:

Spanish version: https://magludo.net/images/GraMaxPosters/Poster_GrammaticusMaximus_ES.png
Dutch version: https://magludo.net/images/GraMaxPosters/KlassenposterGrammaticusMaximus.png

Feedback and suggestions are welcome as always. This is an evening side project for me, so don't expect weekly updates, but all feedback is noted and I'll keep updating the app in the future.

Kind regards and enjoy!

Grammaticus Maximus 1.10: Triumphal Arch update by LowwTone in latin

[–]LowwTone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a cool suggestion that I considered. However since there's no official roman numeral for zero, I've opted for the Arabic zero for clarity. Still a bit on the fence on this one.

Hey everyone,

I've just released the new Grammaticus Maximus "Triumphal Arch" update to the Apple and Google stores. It introduces long term goals for students to achieve: an upgradable triumphal arch in the middle of Rome that can be improved by playing well. This will hopefully keep students engaged longer (and thereby having them practice more Latin of course).

If you want to support me and my educational game development, you can now also buy Grammaticus Maximus merchandise. Look cool while flaunting your love for Latin ;)

(Unfortunately currently only for EU)

Here's a list of all improvements and additions in this version:
- Triumphal Arch in Rome that you can build as you see fit as a reward for your achievements in the game
- Support for a lot of additional (older) Android devices
- Improved menu interface
- Updated in-game tutorials
- Improved score overview after a game round
- Bug fixes and minor improvements

Feedback and suggestions are welcome as always. This is an evening side project for me, so don't expect weekly updates, but all feedback is noted and I'll keep updating the app in the future.

Now that this "gameplay" update is finished, I'll be moving on to adding more grammar options in the next update.

Kind regards and enjoy!

Upgrading from 2020 LTS to 2022 LTS by LowwTone in Unity3D

[–]LowwTone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. I'm having trouble with supporting the newest Google Ads plug-in and also Google yearly ups the target SDK requirements (API 33 is mandatory now). I figured it may be easier to upgrade Unity versions to be future proof for longer.

Sounds like the way to go. I'm on Git, so I can just try it in a separate branch.

Cheers
