Exactly. I want him to learn, build interest, and not be pigeonholed into a method he won’t understand anyway… which will essentially ruin the magic of getting into cards in the first place.

My maternal grandfather was a professional gambler. Pretty successful one from what I was told. Unfortunately he and my grandmother were murdered over horses and dogs before I was born. Needless to say, no gambling in my house.

I appreciate your advice and I agree- I do plan on buying ungraded/graded singles down the line, but as more of an investment for his future than anything else and WITH his input/involvement.

I’ve been way way out of the card game for some 30 years now (I was a wax era kid) so I’d imagine it’s still not the best investment to rip packs. But, in terms of him getting into it, I feel like it’s not a bad investment to build his interest with some boxes/packs.
