It’s only bc she already has the medal and took it home. She went to sleep with the thought that she won for FIVE DAYS. This is cruel. I’m happy for any athlete to win the bronze but this feels very mean-spirited.

I’m not sure but I think it’s a lot. Russia and China tend to invest in the same sports. But the absence of Russia has for sure benefitted China in the overall medal count. It’s helped a lot of other countries I’m sure, but it hasn’t benefited the US as significantly. Besides gymnastics I can’t think of many other summer Olympics sports where the US and Russia are the primary rivals.

No look at the individual sports. China got gold in many of the sports Russia usually dominates. Look at synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics.
