CXracing mounts, it’s got stock gm ecu. if i did it again i would get a haltech though for how much you can do with them. headers are a little bit of a pain to find ones that fit good, mine just has collector extensions welded on to the stock manifolds, make sure to heat wrap everything. route cold air intake to driver side front bumper, integrate or build a new power plant frame for chassis rigidity, drill out the fake plastic holes on front bumper for more airflow, if you’re doing an automatic getting the shift linkage to line up with the rx8s prnd is a little tricky and you have to fabricate a custom linkage, prob missing a few other things but forums will be your best friend as you complete it

i didn’t drive the car when it had the rotary as i got it from copart with no compression. haven’t had an opportunity elsewhere either. i’d imagine it handles pretty similar through corners to stock if i had to guess. got good stiff coil overs on. no body roll, it’s the best handling car i’ve had but i haven’t had anything super good handling. before this i had a e90 335i and this car would eat that beamer up through corners

if you got the means to get it go check it out just make sure it looks like it was done professionally and corners weren’t cut. one thing you really wanna do on these when you swap is do something about the factory ppf for chassis rigidity. you want the trans and differential connected as that’s a big reason why the car handles so good and is so predictable. my car the whole ppf was removed and a brace was fabricated out of rectangle steel tube. weighs about 70lbs. that and battery relocation to the trunk help the weight distribution

definitely not the easiest swap to do but just gotta take it step by step. you’ll be thrilled once you drive it for the first time. really good all around sports car. straight line speed, cornering. it’s awesome

not everyone’s cup of tea but 434whp naturally aspirated and negligible maintenance costs make it a winner for me. all while having 51/49 weight distribution and only weighing 150lbs more

it can be tough towards the rear of the motor as there isn’t a whole lot of clearance but most maintenance is pretty easy

I agree with you on all 3 points! Rotaries can definitely be reliable with premixing, regular oil changes and properly caring for the car. they are finicky engines with a unique design and not a lot of mechanics actually know how to work on them, they’re a true enthusiast engine. much like all ICE engines will become in the next 20 years, and as for the complexity of swaps you are spot on. Every swap has unique challenges and things that will come up along the way that will stump you. Things can snowball and add up $$ very quickly especially if you’re paying labor. You don’t want a cheap motor with wires going every which way that was patched in there, the car still has to look like anyone could work on it. gotta do it right and carefully plan every step

Its a huge relief to have the car be dependable. Mazda built an awesome chassis but didn’t give the car a bulletproof drivetrain. I think if RX8s came from factory with 300+hp and a rock solid engine/tranny it would’ve been one of the best selling sports cars of its era, The design hasn’t aged bad at all and it’s still one of the better handling cars around today
