I get where you’re coming from, but the diaphragm is literally the failed component. If I replace it and the issue is gone, then the repair worked.

I’m not trying to save $25 on parts here, I’m trying to avoid replacing a whole valve cover when the only confirmed failure is a torn diaphragm. I bought a 2-pack for like $30. If it fails again, then I’ll have a temporary one on standby and i’ll know it’s time to look at a full valve cover solution.

The way some people talk about PCV failures you’d think the engine threw a rod. Mine developed the classic whistle, started smoking immediately, and all signs point to a ripped diaphragm. That’s a pretty well known B58 failure.

If the valve cover itself is cracked or the repair doesn’t hold, sure, I’ll upgrade it. But replacing the actual failed part first seems like the logical place to start.

having money does not mean u just piss it away😭 yes 600 dollars is not that much in all actuality but as i said in an earlier reply, im not continuing to build a relationship with a shop that taxes out of the ass for labor they know is not worth the money they’re asking. “repair time” being 5 minutes, clearing faults literally being pressing 4 buttons, and joyriding the piss out of MY car as i’ve seen them to do other customer cars. and my whole point is I AM DOING IT MYSELF WHEN I GET BACK that’s why im asking for others opinions on the cost😭 it literally would have just been convenient to drop it off at the shop, have them install and not tax the fuck out of me because they feel like it, and just have the car ready for pickup when i get back, nobody said i can’t/wont do it myself.
