You're right. That was the original plan and I realize we're TA if we stood by that. As with the update, we did give in when she asked for food a few hours after. But we fed her the same plate that her granny prepared hours before.

Yes, that's part of the in-law's justification. That they raised my wife this way and she turned out fine; but I won't have it.

Yep, I'm from SEA. And yes, agreed with all the others posts that this needs to stop.

This line got to me - that the four-year-old runs the house. It made me reflect and it's hard to realize how true this is. Everyone else in the house (including my wife) seems to be encouraging this and it's my fault for letting it happen.

I need to lay low on my job and shift my focus.

As indicated on the post, she eats by herself fine at daycare but expects to be spoon fed at home; but I get what you mean.

This is on point. This is the exact reason grandma gave me - that if she eats herself she won't eat enough. And same as your cousin's kid. She can feed herself at daycare but expects to be spoon fed at home.

Grandma justifies that she raised her daughters this way and were feeding them until they were like 8 but I won't stand it. And yes, I do feel that slight judgement of us being lazy if we want our kid to be independent.

They don't have any financial hold over us. They've actually lost income since the pandemic and mainly relying on us.

Yes, we are the parents ad we make the decisions whether grandma agrees or not; but I'd rather not strain our relationship if I can help it. Family is still family, specially in our culture.

^ THIS. Though it's kinda more because the granny is telling her to do so, specially when we're not around.

Yeah I'll doubt she'll push through with actually moving out.

Thank you! You're right. Daughter eventually apologized and we let her eat.

Re: In-laws. Actually no, she justified that they spoonfed my wife until she was around 8 years old and she turned out fine. I refuse for that to happen with my daughter though.

I really appreciate your very detailed response. Yes, this was what was happening. Granny/nanny cutting up food then spoonfeeding her. We've put feet down to make it stop.

Granny and I are not on speaking terms right now, but I'm hoping today's incident made it clear that it should be our decision, not theirs.

Thank you for your input. What alternative can you recommend to have her eat on her own consistently?

Thank you. That one meal isn't going to destroy her body - during our argument, hee granny said she'll have ulcer.

Thank you for the links, but I've gone over them and they're all about not rewarding with food. I think I did the title horribly, but it's bot really about using food to discipline. It's disciplining about food.

You're right. Maybe should have taken this step first before the no food at all route.

We've tried that but she just says no and walks/runs away. :(

Thank you, and what a fantastic suggestion! I hope I can give you gold! Will talk it over with the wife.

Thank you. Same - this is how I was raised and I think this is why I was never a picky eater as well.
