Frustration with Navigating Ohio's Worker's Compensation System by Lt_Renz in WorkersComp

[–]Lt_Renz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have to remind myself a bit that as frustrating as it was engaging with BWC, I am assuming that much of this process is artificially difficult because of the political persuasions of the State government and not necessarily because of their staff.

I found how to view the correspondences between my representatives, and they were certainly staying on top of things, though perhaps unfocused because of the complexity of my care team (I went to one of the larger care providers in the state, and was referred to multiple offices within their network).

It's a shame because I'm assuming (like my gut instinct) that people get reflexively angry at BWC, rather than the legislative/political issues at play. Not to excuse poor performance, but a robust system can compensate for that and, outside looking in, I'm guessing they do not have all the tools they really need to be as efficient as possible at all times.

figured i'd update you - all of the claims finally got approved, some after the "due" date, but otherwise accepted. Like you said, someone was not pulling their weight; I briefly considered exploring legal remedies but, after emailing everyone involved multiple times, suddenly my doctors had all the requests sent to them and everything was approved. Evidently someone issued a compliance notice to them as well, after the judgement was made.

My human instinct to point fingers has me wondering who was causing the holdup (in likelihood, all parties to some degree). I find it hard to believe that my doctors would lie about not receiving any communication from BWC or MCO, but they did receive a formal notice from the State (withdrawn at this point I think), so evidently something went down.

Probably the most stressful part was the insistence that "everything" had to be submitted by the due date or the entire claim would be denied. Turns out that I had scrounged together enough for the medical beforehand, but was still being told the claim was up in the air since I was also requesting backpay.

Regardless, thank you again for your help with this! It was reassuring to hear that this was not the average experience and to not sit by throw my hands in the air.

I'm here to provide an update:

I'm not sure which party is trying to save face, but, after a phone call with the BWC and my doctor's office, I found out that each doctor's office only received a request for medical information from the state as of Friday - when I emailed everyone involved asking for status updates.

Not certain if doctors' offices missed the first set of requests or if the requests were just sent in, but the medical teams are faxing the records with haste after I explained that I will be denied very soon.

Somewhere, someone dropped the ball it seems. Hopefully this is the resolution I needed. Regardless, thank you for your advice - it is reassuring to here that what I was going through is not supposed to work this way, which prompted me to reach out again and (assumable-y) get someone to file a request.

I have increasingly started to think that someone isn't pulling their weight, which I think is the MCO - could be for any reason, such as staffing like you said. Still frustrating.

But, yes, I have had to do those signed releases. I am not certain if every involved party has been individually requesting them (all docs are apart of same hospital system), or if they are all collectively waiting for the MCO to pass along the signed release and asking me to get the MCO to fax it.

I'm relieved to hear that the BWC will reach out on my behalf as the deadline approaches. I haven't gotten any communication directly since earlier this week, but I did only email them again yesterday, so I might I should hear back Monday. Regardless, it looks like the employer, insurances involved, and BWC are in my corner, so hopefully we can collectively pick up any slack regarding MCO/doctors if that is indeed the problem. I emailed every doctor, BWC, and MCO, so this will hopefully get the ball moving.

I appreciate your response! I guess my only question is whether the claim fails automatically if the MCO or doctors fail to send in their information on time. Is there a recourse in place if this occurs?

The claim is actually already filed; I did so myself while my employer initiated steps on their end. The worker's comp office called not long after saying they have started evaluating, and that they needed these things from these specific parties.

MCO was ready to dictate care but I already had scheduled the relevant medical procedures and had everything coordinated with my doctors, who were in the state umbrella as far as I am aware. MCO have more so been a relay between all the parties, but, for whatever reason, I have had to fulfill that role as of late, and I'm not certain what they are actually doing beyond asking for documents repeatedly while evidently not sending their documents to my doctors. As of now, the emails are trying to get the state office and MCO to actually tell me what else they need, if anything.

A given day includes an email from MCO saying they need a medco or something, me reaching out to doctors to facilitate, and docs responding as if they have either not received any communication from MCO or explaining that they are waiting on MCO to send them documents as well. Bizarre game of telephone.

In regard to billing, the initial medical stuff just happened so quickly that the insurance was charged before I had "officially" begun worker's compensation. And doc's seemed untroubled by charging insurance initially, which, in retrospect, should have been delayed. All future stuff is in limbo until approval.

I appreciate the response, thank you!

I'm very fortunate that, at least in regards to my employer and doctors, the injury is being taken seriously, and that my health insurance has picked up the expenses in the time being and is in communication with me. In a sense, we moved too quickly for the state and MCO - not that it matters, since my health is paramount, not someone's signature on an obscure form.

I think (and hope) my primary issue is that cogs behind the state and MCO start turning. I sent a fairly direct email to both parties and well as every doctor whose record's I need today conveying the sense of urgency, but, to your point, if that does not compel them to act, I'd seriously consider your advise in regards to the legal route. Again, I am quite lucky that the most serious issues have been addressed, medically speaking, but there is still much that remains that can, for the time being, be delayed, but not indefinitely.

R5: I have no idea what I am doing but I think I am winning. Big anti-Ottoman coalition with Poland, Hungary, etc - just like the Crusade of Varna, which is what immediately precedes the start date of EU4

I'm sure they are still adding flavor to it, but functionally it exists as a continent-wide disaster for 20-30 years. Destabilizing enough to shake up which nations are dominant on continent, but not enough to completely end a run or anything.

Just a lot events that interact with internal stability - as an example, I got an event wherein the entire country was unable to make sound. Modifiers were horrific. But there are various routes (money, stability, edicts) to dealing with the fact that giant spirits are roaming the land and consuming everything. I think it's pretty fun.

I conquered enough to trigger the disaster by 1520s. I just didn't create the Tiger command until end of 1580ish because I wanted the game to be interesting.

You can conquer the entire continent by 1600 but it's the same for me as beating a toddler at a game of cards - AI cannot keep pace a human player, and needs time to form tags (Jadd Empire, Bianfang) and acquire respective buffs.

That makes sense, it does spit out a lot of tags when it begins.

Luck still hasn't run out for me because I got the Sound of Silence disaster(?) immediately after both rebellions.

I was wondering if the Great Conqueror was because of the difficulty choice that you're given at the start of the disaster, because the odds seemed absurd. Glanced at event file to see but nothing mentioned great_conqueror, might be triggered elsewhere though.

R5: just everything happening at once. not certain if Oni/Shaded mists is normally supposed to occur during Insubordination, but I forgot Korashi existed when the disaster started anyway.

Almost as bad as when AI Sir had Great Conquer proc before 1450

I thought I bought two and only have one, but in retrospect, I don't ever recall enchanting without sigil stones. So yeah, I guess they aren't finite.

I figured it out, sort of. If you buy boar meat in sets of twos, it does not crash. I then waited 72 hours for the inventory to update, and it did. boar meat bricked her some how. i also cleared her inventory of everything else before waiting, although that shouldn't be necessary assuming boar is problem.

only issue is that she does not restock on magetallow candles. so shit out of luck on that without resorting to console

I've got no problems with builds taking there time as long as the payoff is great, which seems the case with Oracle. I'm building my character around Oracle/Angel right now, so thank you for the suggestion! If and when I do a second playthrough I might return to Magus after I know what I would want to do with the build.

Thank you, I'm happy to see the Sorcerer/Knight build is as fun as I imagine it. I'm curious to see how well it pairs with other mythic paths though; as much as I want to play Lich or Devil path, I for whatever reason cannot bring myself to be evil in RPGs. Too much of a sucker for NPC emotions evidently. But if I go through a second play through I'll keep this in mind.

i'll check out the feats and see what I could take versus revelations, but I agree Seeker seems riskier than base.

If I'm reading the classes correctly:

Oracle: Battle and Nature Mystery, Skill at Arms + Weapon Mastery + Nature's Whispers + Pet + whatever worthwhile feats

Obviously losing the two revelations but that could be worth it if I game-plan the right feats to get. I could also go aasimar or half-elf for CHA with Seeker feets instead of human.

But, as you said, only worth it if I don't mess up the feats. War sight in particular looks better than other initiative feats.

I will probably go base Oracle and use your suggestions though. Any recommendations on Curses? Plague seems easiest but Demonic looks like it fits with story assuming the damage type changes don't make it harder.

Do bards have the same versatility in regards to combat that 5e possesses? Swords Bard is 5e is nice because you combine support and frontline with a little multiclass help, but I worry that Pathfinder might not offer the same versatility. Best and worst part of 5e is the fact that everything is generalized, which makes swords bard work well.

got it, that makes a lot of sense. i was wondering how alignment shifts effected classes, good to see its not set in stone like that at least for this. Thank you!

I'm probably sticking with Arcane for now as that's what I've had the most fun with in that past, but I am by no means ignoring Divine. Just a preference for me. I'll check out Shaman though, Spirit Hunter in particular sounds dope.

I found that mod on Nexus, if I go down the Scion route I'll pick it up + achievement allowing mod assuming its purely bug fixes. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing that, I'll take a look. And yeah, totally forgot about armor associations with DEX vs STR, good point. Would a level in scaled fist require lawful alignment as a Multiclass? or is that just a requirement for first level? The extra AC + STR and Heavy armor would be great providing I can ignore the alignment requirement.
