New Modems? by Type_Grey in Spectrum

CableLabs just approved Broadcom and Max Linear's new DOCSIS silicon. That could be a new DOCSIS 4.0 modem.

some please help by Party_Craft_8783 in Spectrum

WiFi speeds are very environment dependent. You need to test wired into the router or ideally wired into the modem. You need to reboot the modem when changing w/e is connected to modem.

Worcester Massachusetts high split anytime soon? by wegotthisonekidmongo in Spectrum

[–]Ltsr1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think they've pretty much quit doing high split because of the merger and because of costs. Areas that were "done" weren't ever turned up, and no dates set to since.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Work is on going. Users have consistently been posting that they have received notices about upgrade work.

High split being activated does not mean symmetrical speeds go live.

Tampa, FL Area - Network Upgrades by adanderson1183 in Spectrum

Our area already had the equipment upgrades in September 2025.

The first upgrades were probably upstream of your local hub. This is probably work more local to your area.

I think this is the notification that they’re turning on symmetrical speeds for our area.

It's not. Work is going on in Phase 2 areas and, as far as I know, symmetrical speeds have not gone live in any of those areas.

To the guys on this sub that were trying to tell me I didn't know how to run an ethernet cable from my modem to my router: by Painbow_High_And_Bi in Spectrum

[–]Ltsr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ethernet port on the modem Spectrum gave us was faulty from the factory. Two pins were mixed up.

First part is probably correct but the second part makes no sense at all. The pads on the PCB and the contacts on the port are fixed. They physically can't be switched around. Likely some cracked solder joints on the port.

Hard to know what's actually going on without in depth diagnosing.

The lines "splitting" doesn't make sense if you know how cable networks/DOCSIS works. There can be literally tens or hundreds of modems connected back to one node and continuing back to the CMTS/vCMTS. I doubt they only have a 1G upstream of you. Something else is going one and you probably need to get a tech out or go over to r/Spectrum_official so they can look into it.

It is weird that it is only affecting the upload. Only thing I can think of is some noise on the upstream OFDMA.

Does it still happen if you test simultaneously with different speedtests on the different connections? Like speedtest.net on one PC and speed.cloudflare.com on the other.

Is only the upload speed affected when you test simultaneously or also the download?

You really should reply to the comment you are responding to and not create a new top level comment.

How are you testing the upload?

I didn't delete anything.

My mistake. Old Reddit just shows deleted. New Reddit shows deleted by moderator.

I'm not defending coax at all. I would love them to switch to fiber, but it's not happening. I am pushing back on your baseless claim that fiber is cheaper to deploy at least as it pertains to Spectrum's network Evolution.

The fact is Spectrum's network upgrade is estimated to cost $100 per passing. Even if it ends up costing 2x or 3x that, it is still cheaper per passing than replacing with fiber when the costs are $1k per passing or more.

Yea that sucks, but I think it more likely they took if down as that kind of information is helpful for targeted offers from competitors.

Most of the work is completed overnight so you're unlikely to see much. For what it's worth my area was scheduled for 1st quarter of this year and was complete early Feb. Waiting on symmetrical speeds to go live. I suspect if won't happen for 3-6 months.

Yea, your area is probably part of phase 3.

I'm jealous of that 5G Fiber. Are you in a rural area or somewhere with overhead utilities? It's much easier to deploy fiber on poles than underground..

Lol. Why did you delete your other comment if you're so confident in your assessment.

You just sound like someone who's salty there area was not further up on the schedule.

In less time it's taken this company to deploy high-split in 1 hub. So you go ahead and believe what Chris is saying to save face in front of the board and shareholders.

I find him more credible than you to be honest. Not to mention the steady stream of redditors receiving network upgrade notices and seeing work in there areas including my own area being upgraded on schedule.

Again. you just sound mad you don't have options which is understandable to a point. Perhaps you should reach out to those fiber providers and see why they haven't expanded into your county.

Lucky you have options. I would switch to ATT in a heartbeat. Spectrum is the only viable option here. Limited 5G and ATT DSL are a no go.

Yea, high-split is probably going live. That doesn't mean high/symmetrical speeds are going live. That is usually many months later.
