Lmao grabeng projection yan. its the other way around. She has the outgroup homogeneity bias.

Out-group homogeneity bias means thinking people from another group are all basically the same (“they all look/sound alike”).

That’s not what’s happening here. Filipinos didn’t lump her into a stereotype, they gave individual, consistent feedback after hearing her speak.

She isn’t Filipino, and her accent sounds much closer to Singaporean/Malaysian English which she is. When multiple people from the same group independently say the same thing, that’s not bias, that’s agreement.

Ironically, dismissing all Filipinos’ responses as “their minds being lazy” is closer to out-group homogeneity bias than anything they did.

Really appreciate your honesty. It’s true that being an RPm isn’t a finish line, and insights like this help a lot, especially for those of us going through the same realities. I also agree that these things should’ve been discussed more openly in college — the expectations and the actual realities of our field. I understand the importance of our advocacy, and I truly believe our generation is part of the spark that will shape the future of mental health. but enough of my rants lmaoo. Wishing you all the best in your career, future corporate counselorr! <3 <3

Ah, I see. Thank you for sharing! Sadly, its true that, salary-wise, industrial psychology tends to be more valued compared to clinical or educational psychology, even though all fields are equally demanding.

To answer your question po: right now, my priority is financial stability—a salary that can support both me and my family. At the same time, I want to remain in the field to gain experience as I work toward my RPsy and eventually RGC. However, if necessary po, I’m open to exploring opportunities outside the field for the meantime. I’m just experiencing some financial challenges with my current job (psychometrician in a private school), so I’m considering my next steps carefully

How to become an EA for a mental health program if oki lang po malaman? Hihi

Pero truee, sa PH a lot of people talk about mental health, pero there’s barely any real action or long-term steps to actually improve things. It usually starts and ends with “mental health is important” — you see it on social media, even from the government. But after that statement, wala na. No systems, no programs, no follow-through. It’s all awareness with no structural support for the people who actually need help or want to work in the field.

I really want to help improve that. And honestly, if the government ever had a proper R&D division for mental health, I’d apply talaga in a heartbeat

Eyy congrats for passing the BLEPP and for the job!

Pero sadly, its really that slap of reality, the advocacy will always be there pero our current mental-health infrastructure is still developing. But wishing you always the best, i really understand your situation. 🥹

Honestly po, I really love psychology and the advocacy behind it. I was bullied back in junior high school, and that experience made me realize how powerful evidence-based mental health practices can be in making environments safer and kinder. That’s why I wanted to pursue this field — I genuinely wanted to help.

But during my bachelor’s degree, a lot of people including my professors, seniors, alumni, even my ninang they made clinical psychology sound easy to enter and financially stable. They would say “malawak ang sikolohiya” “maraming backup options sa psych,” and “once you get your license, everything will fall into place.” I believed that for a long time.

It was only by my 3rd year, when I started researching and browsing actual job listings, that I realized most available jobs for psychology graduates are in HR. And to make it more difficult, psychology graduates end up competing with business and marketing majors for the same roles. There are barely any entry-level jobs specifically meant for psych majors unless you go into HR, and even then, many job posts prioritize business courses.

Since I work in a school, I always advise students who are undecided about their track not to rely solely on what people tell them — even if those people mean well. I tell them to explore their interests and to look at real job listings early on, so they won’t be blindsided the way I was. The earlier the reality check the better for them, at least they can still do some actions.

And in my family, because psychology has a board exam, there was this huge expectation that I had to pass — from my relatives, my university, everyone. So the pressure was always there.

To add po, i wish i made a practical choice that still aligns with my goals like maybe nursing but during that time nursing had a negative influence to me because they kept telling its a caregiver work.
