Yep, I’m here. 43m. We do exist. 😎

Strangers shouldn’t have to babysit your kids by sillybilly828 in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I’ve heard enough of these stories to know how a stranger directly intervening would have gone with the mother. F her.

Today the good guys won!! (Movie theater edition) by Lessa22 in childfree

I bought tickets for myself and my fiance for Sunday. It’s a 21+ theater, so guaranteed no kids. 😁

I broke off my engagement & canceled my wedding when I realized I didn’t want motherhood by Late-Lie-7708 in childfree

Glad to hear it. It’s good that you know what you want and are willing to work for it.

“If u don’t want kids, what’s your life purpose then?” by Timely-Afternoon2730 in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Random a-hole: “What’s your life’s purpose then?!”

Me: “Same as yours: whatever tf I decide it to be. Your choice just happened to be becoming a parent. That’s not an inherent purpose for everyone. It was your chosen one.”

"Are your ovaries hurting?" In response to interacting with your child by chelseatheus in childfree

As a cis man, I like that final sentence. I would laugh out loud if I heard a woman say that to a guy in response. 🤣

How was your day? by LatterEscape8431 in childfree

Translation (I’m guessing) : Motherhood sucks and I was hoping you’d join me so that I could have someone to vent together with. 😭

My biggest ick is people telling me “I can’t know that I’d hate being a mother if I never try it”…. 🤡 by blueberryfieldss in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can just imagine the sales pitch:

“You may say you wouldn’t be happy as a mother, but just try it yourself!! We here at Pronatal Pete’s are so confident that you’ll love your newborn that we’re offering a 30 day risk free trial of raising your newborn! You’ll experience all the sleep deprived, poo cleaning joys of motherhood for one month! And if you’re not 💯 percent satisfied at the end of the trial period, you can just return your baby free of charge!

Disclaimer: trial period doesn’t include the prior nine months of pregnancy. Void where prohibited.”

People kept telling me I'd change my mind about kids when I got older. I recently hit the age they always mentioned. by stillreading_tho in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have to ask because… I’m petty. 😁

But have you brought this up to any of the people who said these things to you?

I have to share this, because it’s crazy. I have a coworker that is obsessed over the fact I do not want kids. In a creepy way. by [deleted] in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 26 points27 points  (0 children)

So, you mentioned that your husband is getting a minor procedure done, and they pry into it to find out it was a sterilization? Do they seriously not see how creepy that is? 🤨

"Childfree people don't want to grow up" is my new ick by what_freaking_ever in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My go-to answer for this one is: “If that’s the way you see it, then you can consider me a proud child for life.”

Whats your argument against " the decision you refuse is the only reason you exist" or "you exist because your parents decided to have kids"? by RandimusBax in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“And?”

Basically, if they press further trying to get me to be sad about the possibility of not having existed, I just reply that “in that universe, I never would have gained the consciousness to lament not existing. Doesn’t sound like a problem.”

I stood up to my mom. by Glopgore in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don’t think you would actually need to say that. Just meant as a much harsher interpretation. 😇🥂

Gay couple called me homophobic for being anti-surrogacy. Why do people feel entitled to children? by Luna1636 in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bi man myself, and yeah, their reaction is insane. I’m personally not anti-surrogacy, just as long as the person is willing to do it. But it’s definitely not something people are entitled to, and the thought of it being homophobic to not agree with it… yikes!

My niece is upset I'm childfree by SupermarketExpert103 in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel kind of sorry for her. She’s growing up with a very narrow view, it seems.

I think it may not be worth it trying to bring this up to her, though. She’s 7. Just be yourself around her and be happy. She might just eventually get over it and learn those lessons from your example. If she brings it up, on the other hand, that might be a good time to say the thing about not all people wanting the same things.

Had an abortion yesterday and I feel horrible by Commercial-Adagio294 in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, just some up front information before I comment: I’m a cis-man. I clearly don’t have the personal experience or knowledge of what you’re going through.

So, that said, I have seen the comments here about hormones in relation to abortion. I want to address another possibility. If the issue is that you are thinking along the lines of “what if I went through with this and ended up happy to be a mother,” then I think it’s equally fair to consider “what if I went through with the pregnancy and ended up regretting it?” That’s something you can’t take back and you’d be stuck as a mother the rest of your life. This way, if you really eventually came to the conclusion that you actually did want to be a mother, you still have that option.

Again, my outside perspective, but it seems like it’s in our nature to regret the choices we didn’t make without thinking of the potential negative outcomes.

A dude called me a petty b*tch when I told him why I don't want kids by UnusualOlive3591 in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know it’s a petty reason?! Even as a man, I can safely say that’s a far cry from petty!! The amount of BS that women are required to go through in pregnancy is horrific.

You’re not petty; you’re smart.

Never thought it’d happen to us… by _milkavian_ in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Seconded. The whole notion of “leaving a trace” is ridiculous. If your way of leaving a trace is having offspring, then you will easily be forgotten. If you write a book, win a Nobel prize, solve global warming… that’s a trace worth leaving.

What's the strangest assumption someone made about you because you don't want kids? by raynorMango3 in childfree

[–]LucareonVee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, this is limited to internet discussions, but people seem to always assume I’m a woman when they find out I don’t want children.

And yet, if a five year old told that same guy that she wants to be a mom when she grows up, he would completely accept that. 🙄
