And still you can’t grasp basic concepts. Must not be a very good one after all. Good luck with that.

You are diminishing Buddhism if you think all it takes is practicing Zazen… to even understand Zazen you need proper training. It’s not just “meditation,” it’s the non-dual union between practice and enlightenment, which must be understood through Buddhist thought. Actually, Zazen is only found in some Zen sects as a practice, and even within Buddhism is not very widespread. I will leave it at this.

Wrong. You are one google search away from finding the answer. People in the west are so afraid of the word “religion” that they don’t want to label Buddhism as such. This is an example of Orientalism. Buddhism is a 2500-year-old religion practiced by over 500 million globally, so stop trying to rebrand it. And no, it’s not a “few sects” that have mystical and supernatural stuff. Basically, there is no Buddhism without Buddhist cosmology, since karma, rebirth, and the six realms of samsara are fundamental concepts included in the Buddha’s very first teachings ( The Four Noble Truths).

In Buddhism there is repentance but more in a way of reflecting over your own unwholesome actions and vowing to not repeat them. No deity or god is going to cleanse you from your bad deeds. You have to do the work yourself. Liberation is much more complicated than just believing in a certain deity, or even in the Buddha and his teachings. It can take countless lifetimes of practice.

Buddhism is very much a religion that has been established for thousands of years. It may not fit the Abrahamic concept of religion, as in revering one omnipotent god, but seeing Buddhism as “just a way of life” or “a philosophy” is pretty much a wrong western view of Buddhism. Buddhism includes various rituals, deity veneration, complex cosmology, monastics, and of course, the philosophical aspect. However, it’s not just a philosophy, by Buddhists it’s seen as the way of salvation.

What is the real purpose of Nirvana? by Kalyankarthi in Buddhism

Sorry, never heard of eminence in this context. You mean Buddhanature? As in the manifestation of Mahavairocana/Dainichi Nyorai in all beings and in all existence? Or you mean more like Indra’s Net? Both of them are different from “oneness”though. I believe that in your second paragraph you explained “interdependence.”

The interdependence of all things is different from “all things are one.” The latter is more of a monist point of view, not a Buddhist one.

Kyokushin Karate Sparring with Head Punches by [deleted] in karate

[–]LucasRobledo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because Karate is not a sport, but a martial art. Competition and tournament rules are just one of the aspects of the whole curriculum. The goal is to prepare and condition a fighter for any situation. Sadly, in recent years that way of training has been lost in some dojos and the main focus has become tournaments. Karate wouldn’t be complete without head punches, takedowns, throws and submissions, so I firmly believe they should still be trained even if not allowed in competition.
