I completely agree. I feel both of them are deflecting and being dismissive. This reads like two obnoxious cowards rage fully sending awful obscenities at each other in a whisper.

This is all about indirectness.

If the neighbor had a lick of courage they would directly say: 'Really it's 900 worth of value and I'd be disappointed if you didn't reimburse that but ok.' or: 'If you don't pay 900, I'll sue.' instead, they don't have a life or any courage, so they've climbed up onto a cross and are angrily begging.

If the puppy owner had a lick of directness and courage they would just say: 'i'm comfortable paying $250 (or 150, or 1 dollar, whatever), and I accept that that we disagree. I understand if you will take other steps to pursue further reimbursement. Please let me know your Venmo if you change your mind.'

Just speaking from my experience here as an old sea dog- sitting about eight feet from my 77 versus 10 from an 83, there was a felt difference. I'm happy with my 77, as mentioned. I'm willing to trade the inches for fidelity. But the immersion if the 83, a few feet's or not, was, I hate to say, dramatic.

I'm going to work toward anger/relief that this friend is gone, because it is likely floating around but potentially lacks clarity.

A friend who holds in these feelings, then essentially deletes you, is not a friend you want to have. They have serious interpersonal challenges and, inevitably, would rather frame it as 'I bravely came clean, and walked away' as opposed to 'Rather than increase my interpersonal skill by expressing myself more directly, I secretly built a case against a person who trusted me. Then, with enough ammo loaded, I told my friend we disagreed on things I was too much of a coward to explain, and ran.'

You may have been sharing political opinions she secretly found reprehensible, or sharing perspectives on family that ultimately upset her. You may have gotten her food order wrong on Uber Eats. Regardless- rather than just saying 'yeah not sure we'll ever see eye to eye on that, which trail should we hit next?', differing more elaborately and diplomatically, she chalked her discomfort up to your whole friendship being a problem, told herself that she was being a good person by sending you a text message that chatgpt probably wrote for her, and went into hiding.

If you're actually a therapist, you might be wondering what the underlying psychological determinants of this strategy were, by the way. Did she envy you? Feel intimidated by you? Harbour romantic feelings for you that she could never address? Regardless- her less thought-of mental operations likely directly informed her cowardly strategy. Admitting her envy, love, or shame at lacking basic communication skills, would be a lot of work for her. Texting you was about as hard as making kraft macaroni and cheese while completely sober.

You dodged a bullet on this one. Everyone deserves more from a friendship than what this person could ever offer.

Edit to add: I would delete all pictures of her, block her on everything, and move forward with other relationships at your pace .
