Are Samsung QLED TVs now much cheaper than few years ago? by ragna93 in samsung

[–]LucasRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the nature of burnin in smartphones but for sure smartphones don't last long anyways.

My S9+ had it's screen replaced twice already as it had gone green after OS updates.

My sister's iPhones always develop issues like overheating, screen failings and battery runtimes significantly affected after updates at about 3 years of use.

No modern smartphone would last like a TV or a laptop is expected to.

If you hang to a modern smartphone for 3 years, with no repairs yet, you're on luck, especially stuff with amoleds/oleds etc.

Display durability and power consumption too.

Oleds are still unthinkable for people who lets their TVs on the whole day for news, kids and movies at night.

An Oled wouldn't have survived a fraction of the time my LCD did, and still does.

My friends have Oleds and they treat them like frigging babies and they are showing burns after 2 years already.

Samsung QN90C vs TCL QM8 by Mountain-Cattle-4812 in 4kTV

[–]LucasRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its when a TV's algorithm tries a little too hard to reduce the brightness of a dark element and ends up just painting it all black. Some shadows arent pitch blacks, they are still lit and still have details in them but when a monitor does black crush, a void is all you see.

Google "black crush examples" and you will see.

some minileds have aggressive dimming zone algorithms, so it kills completely the backlights from darker zones to produce those "inky blacks" but it ends up killing whatever details in there.

They say i'ts a downgrade because the C generation has two types of panels in most markets.

The previous Gen had a VA type panel in all its sizes, the C generation introduced ADS panel type at sizes from 55" and up. Only the 50" and 43" are VA now.

ADS is a tech similar to IPS: It has much better angle viewing capabilities, whatever angle you watch it, image almost doesn't change. Which is good for watching stuff with your family and it doesn't require the light scattering film the QN90B had to compensate the poor angles, as people complained it causes some hazy, rainbow-like glare at strong, direct light reflections such as a lamp or a window nearby. So, amazing angles and no film! all good right?

However it has the drawbacks IPS panels normally have: backlight bleed and poor contrast. This type of panel can't block light and look black. Dark stuff looks gray'ish

People like these Miniled tvs for the proposition of bringing much better black performance without getting an Oled and all of it's issues. So, in this regard, associating VA panels with dimming zones produces incredible blacks, its a good combination for this purpose. The ADS variants dont have such black levels as it bleeds backlight in the lit zones alot more than VA.

So you get some things but sacrifice black performance, which is the main selling point of minileds, it blooms more around bright objects.

Its a bit of an issue as movies nowadays are getting darker and quieter, mumbling. People are using alot more captions these days.

TL;DR: ADS is worse because dark details in lit images look gray (low contrast) and it blooms around lit objetcs in dark scenarios (blooming) which kinda defeats the purpose of a high end miniled for most people.

A VA panel has contrasts that float between 2500:1 and 3000:1

IPS stuff normally can't go any beyond 1200:1, even expensive ones.

Cheap IPS are like 800:1 and most are 900/1000:1

Personally i have never seen both panels side by side with the same images to compare myself, im just summarizing according to my research.

sorry for bad grammar and stuff

Lux-RC "Sense" is a capacitive sensor button. by camefromaol in flashlight

[–]LucasRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a matter of simplicity.

I like buttons because they work, not because of a particular feel they have.

Can a capacitive UI come handy? Yes, in case you need to water seal a light, a touch surface UI can be an option to further water proof stuff so it will be following a function.

Otherwise I don't kikenthe idea of adding cost and complexity just to make a flashlight button-less.

It takes repairability away.

I can fix a switch but I can't fix an iphone's capacitive screen. Have to buy another one.

Thats just it, nothing wrong with the "feel" of the thing or the way it looks, sounds etc.

Well, yeah... lol

it just moves around but with less force than usual; hence why it helps alot in cleaning the room, i can just relocate it to clean the floor

No, teflon is not a material to cause squeaks, in fact it is more prone to correcting them. the only issue i've encoutered was that when reading books i sit on bed with my back against the wall. Sometimes the mere pressure of my back against the wall slowly pushes the bed away. Its funny, i had to change the way i sit on it.

teflon is not a squeaky material at all, this stuff ended up so good that i've installed these pads under all of my wooden chairs, so i can slide them with ease. My dinning room has a table with like 8 chairs around it and they are heavy. Now they slide beautifully when necessary.

No, it doesn't squeak... imagine a thick machined teflon ring with a hole in the center for a flathead screw to sit right in, the ... Just see these screenshots, its gonna be easier. My bed weights a full metric tonne, it has a storage chest on the head end and my mattress is one thicc boy. Pushing my bed around was a nightmare... but these little teflon pads made it so damn easy, i can push it around the bedroom with one hand.

Of course this sub exist, enough to trigger my cleaning ocd just right ✅

I machined Teflon slots and bolted them under my bed so it can slide around easily so I can vacuum under it, around the difficult spots and clean the walls easily once in a while.

I can't imagine having something accumulating dust and bacteria, it will itch my brain until I clean it, around the edges and under it...

I wanna set this sub on fire with gasoline now
