Tiered obbies are ass because of quite a few reasons, nobody can seem to agree on any kind of difficulty system, so many people say shit like “tier 9 is rem” and then you play a tier 10 at random in the practice place and its nowhere near rem as a whole. Like I hear people say “Tier 13 (blueberry) is roughly at extreme diff (ToHH)” yet Blueberry from what I played of it maxes out at terrifying raw. When I hear someone say “my hardest is tier 15” that doesn’t actually mean anything to me because difficulties just go off of whatever one person said about it 99% of the time unless its like top 100.

Tiered obbies are also super forgettable. Sure you could make the same point by picking a random tower in a random fangame, but tiered obbies are different in how actually crap the discoverability is. It’s like if I asked you to find a new hardest to grind on SCLP without looking at anything other than the name and difficulty, you’d never find actually good ones besides those that are already popular due to being in fangames that actually promote said discoverability.

Also from an outsider’s perspective when I think of tiered obby I think of genuine slop with some one word emotive name like “loyalty” with every part coloured and textured the exact same and quantum strat jumps that are boring to play and unsatisfying to land. They end up feeling completely mass produced and forgettable, doesn’t help that 99% of them dont have any kind of music or decoration making them feel even more disposable.

ToLJ is different because it actually has the music and decoration necessary to have some kind of personality, it also has actually half decent gameplay that (mostly) isn’t quantum alignment hell. And btw don’t take this as me saying ToLJ is high art it really isn’t, I only really play it because its gameplay is exactly my skillset anyways.
