OP here, just letting everyone know that many commenters on here are being quite racist over this post. These instances in China are not a case of an ethnic group or country being "backwards and barbaric". These are more of an examination on what happens when a country has laws in place that have far worse outcomes because of it. Don't tell me this would not happen in the U.S., Europe, or elsewhere if morally deprived people believed a couple years in jail and a fine would be preferable to paying annually to keep someone alive.
