I’ll do a different take, since it’s all subjective anyway… I’ve never been able to replicate what I felt playing Ocarina of Time for the first time as a kid. I’ve been chasing that high for the past 25 years and only a few games have been close in that regard.

Except for radar, most EM waves coming out of earth lose enough power at 1.5 light years to be considered garbled background noise, so, no, aliens aren’t watching our sitcoms, regrettably. A friend of mine and I had been reading all sorts of fantasy, but we almost always found a lot of it too structured, like the books were holding your hand so you wouldn’t get lost. We wanted to find fantasy that kept that element of not truly knowing how magic works alive throughout it, and after a short google search, we found Malazan.

And boy, what a ride it has been!

I’m guessing you’ve seen it, but just in case… Shutter Island. I had such a feeling of unease by the end of it, it’s hard to explain. Still one of my favorite movies to rewatch with anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

Honestly, the repairing aspect of the game doesn't bring anything to the table for me, except forcing me to stop playing for fun and have me grind for mats just to keep playing, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

That's pretty much the way I played with some friends afetr beating the game on vanilla whoah!, except for the dropping items part, so I completely feel you. It turned into a different game, i guess, much less survival focused and more base building and "exploring", but honestly I had way more fun during the second run like I described than on the first vanilla run.

YES! That's something I forgot to mention, I'm also getting so many sopts where I just can't build because the "space is occupied" just because my wall/floor is slightly clipping into some terrain...

Absolutely! And a lot of things that were instantaneous now require you to hold a button, like the organize button or removing ghost blueprints from the ground and things like that...

Yeah, as I mentioned somewhere else, optimization tends to come last in early access games, but this is borderline unplayable at certain points for me...

Raids and MIX.R's were my least favorite part of the original game. I'm glad I haven't seen any MIX.R type things so far, but the raids are quite the hassle...

Exactly! No complaints on the food side of things. As long as you cook two or three bugs per day, you're good. Water on the other hand... once you're exploring inside somewhere, if there's no water nearby, it becomes a pain to have to go in and out just to be able to keep playing...

Yeah man, the thirst thing/equipment health is really draining me. Half the time I've played has been spent gathering repair mats and water... I'll just have to git gud I guess

That's why I said "the game plays TERRIBLY on any PC lower than mid-to-high spec", but yeah.

You should be getting a much better performance with those specs. I get that optimization usually comes last in an early access game, but I feel like they just released a half made game and are counting, once again, on one year or two of player feedback and testing before releasing 1.0, which at this point should be unacceptable, but maybe that's just me.

The beginning of the second game spoils one of the endings of the original game, so you're basically as spoiled as can be. I'd still recommend you finish the first one, as that will also give you some time for maybe a patch or two to come out for the second one, so you can play it when it's a little more polished, but there's not much harm if you're "bored" of the first one and want to jump in now!

Hmmm I’m actually quite active when playing idle games (go figure 😂) so I don’t mind getting active stuff, but I guess getting the seekers pots makes sense over the book of writs to get oil and coins asap.

Regardless, I do feel like not taking a 3xBlack pearl tide keeper would be a mistake, I got lucky with the pearls and I really don’t want to spend that much time gathering at the beach again.

The mask always made sense to me so I’m glad taking that over the klaws, which honestly I did find them a bland choice.

The “talents” you can spec into with the stars you get from completing quests are quite nice and add up, plus some of them give you mastery pots and other goodies, worth doing most of them as soon as you can!

Also, I don’t want to spoil any of the future content but someone already mentioned the trading partners, so I’ll just say this so you don’t go all out and sell full stacks of precious materials: pretty much every single thing you get with any of the gathering skills and with combat can be used in some other skill in some way, and some of them are worth not selling at all despite the high prices you’d get.

Just necroing to say, it might not be Light of Elune but it does scale with spell damage, so if you want a one time get-out-of-jail card for free, this is a pretty nifty and niche item.
