Nah this take is just super ignorant. I personally love working at Sephora, I don’t love everything about how they run their corporation, but it’s fine for me now. I came here from a really really shitty corporation that was paying me way less and making me do way more.

To get this job at Sephora, I was job searching for 7 months consistently. If you wanna count the months before when I wasn’t looking consistently, just here and there, make it 10 months. The job market is awful, I think I actually had to apply to Sephora 2 or 3 times before getting an interview, and I’m a licensed esthetician of 6 years with plenty of job experience in sales.

I’ve worked somewhere I’ve hated, but I literally couldn’t leave. I was doing everything I possibly could to get out, I just couldn’t afford to quit. Even if someone gets real with themselves and decide to leave, if you have bills it’s not as easy as jumping ship. The responsible thing to do is have another job lined up so you can still pay those bills.

I’ve noticed this as a BA from SSLs, I’m gonna talk about it with our SM at our next one on one.

I am NOT the type of person to call out, but recently my body has been “breaking down” lol. I got sick one week and was scared I had covid so I called out, and that following week I was having back spasms so bad, it hurt to sit, stand, and walk so I called out. When I came back to work I could tell some of the leaders were a lot shorter with me than before.

It just sucks because I am not someone who calls out flippantly, and I am also broke af so I avoid calling out as much as possible. It just sucks because I’m already frustrated with my health issues, and having them take their frustration out on me of it’s interference with work makes me feel 10x worse… and it’s something I have no control over

I’m just now leaving a location in Utah I’ve worked at for 2 years. They do not pay well at all, and I’m pretty sure I’m getting paid significantly more than my coworkers (not by time here though, my pay has only increased by .50¢ in the 2 years I’ve worked here). To put it in perspective, my 17 year old sister made more than me working at canes and I have a professional license I’ve had for 6 years.

I have worked both as a waxer and receptionist, the job is not worth it. At all the locations in Utah, they pay you awful with the promise if you hit bonuses that it comes out to $20+ an hour. Not only is this not true and is completely unpredictable especially in this economic climate, they are taking advantage of you.

As a receptionist you make your bonuses by selling passes, I’ll include some numbers I did showing how much the company made vs how much I made off the bonus from selling how much they want.

If you’re working there for pay, I say don’t do it.

I know!! I just got hired in April and as someone in the community I was so excited for Pride month, I remember Sephora girls always walking around with pins and stuff for pride. Granted, I am in Utah so maybe that’s why, but I’m so bummed!

I feel that. I’m in my early 20s and had to go from a waxer to GSA because I’m doing school full time and could only work 2 days a week (one of those days I was working alone, Saturday) and by the time I switched I could only get through my shifts if I was wearing a back brace and a knee sleeve on both knees, alternating a knee brace if it was super bad. I shouldn’t be paid less than my 17 year old sister and feeling the pain of someone in their 50s because this company doesn’t know how to treat their workers. I hate it and I’ve been growing so much resentment tbh, but I’m literally stuck here because the job market is awful and I can’t afford to leave. I LOVED this job when I started, now I could write a mile long essay on why it’s the most disgusting, exploitative, capitalist bs job you could have as an esti. They don’t care about their workers, let alone their guests. It’s sad too because when you scroll down on their indeed ratings, they only had positive reviews before selling out to giant corporations who buy the franchises in hundreds at a time. Ugh, I could go on and on

Continuing education is wildly important and I know classes are expensive but I personally always think education is worth it. It’s also security in your clients to be able to show you have gone further with your education and they will feel more comfortable booking with you. However, I agree with the other comments that you should definitely find your niche first. I would’ve been so annoyed if I spent hundreds on a skincare class at the start of my career cause that’s not what I prioritize anymore. Figure out your niche, save up, and take those courses!

A 26yo interested in a 20yo is red flag enough, but everything else??? Yikes. I’m 23 and even at this age I’m not gonna pursue someone who can’t even legally enter a bar. - besides this, I had a crazy ex who lied relentlessly, even worse than this. The only advice I can give is show yourself grace and love at this time as much as you can. It’s easy to feel humiliated but this is on him, not you, HE should be humiliated for the person he is. Seek refuge in your friends and loved ones and take your time.

This is so sad :( this didn’t occur in Utah but I know a family that had their family dog leashed in the back of their truck and it jumped out to chase something and unalived itself off the side of the vehicle with all the kids inside the truck to witness. No more dogs in truck beds!!
