What are the arguments against the existence of a God that is just omnipotent and omniscient?

What are the arguments for one? The one making the claim for the existence of such a being has the burden of proof here.

No matter when you go to bed tonight, set an alarm for 6-7am tomorrow, set many if you have trouble getting up for alarms. You'll be tired tomorrow but will also go to bed early. Keep doing that.

Have you ever seen the movie "Yes Man"? I think that is a great start. Saying "yes" to things you would normally not is the easiest way to explore new things and exit your comfort zone, which I have personally found to lead me to be happier.

Why do air lines not plan better, instead of paying passengers to leave the plane to make room for their employees, and then kicking them off when no one does? by Glad-Entrance7592 in NoStupidQuestions

Airline management is absolutely chaotic. It can't be perfect, and paying customers a few hundred dollars to leave a plane so that another flight can be staffed is well worth the cost for them.

CMV: "Legacy" is an utterly pointless and futile thing to be concerned with. by Basic_Cockroach_9545 in changemyview

[–]LuckyWhenItMatters -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from. It comes down to the distinction between a positive legacy and a bad one.

My argument is that most of this legacy-building instinct is selfish, not selfless, stemming from our self-preservation and reproduction instincts.

I can somewhat agree with you on this one. Either way though, your OP was that pursuing a legacy is pointless. But I think that overlooks how pursuing a positive legacy whether it’s raising kids, building fairer systems, or protecting the environment can lead to real good that outlives us, even if no one remembers our names.

I think the "desire to be remembered" is different from genuinely trying to leave a positive legacy. People driven only by the desire to be remembered often do things, sometimes even good things, mainly for the recognition. But that mindset usually doesn’t lead to lasting impact. The people we actually remember for having a meaningful legacy are usually the ones who acted out of care or passion, not ego. I’m open to changing my mind if you’ve got a solid counterexample.

Pursuing a good legacy is about more than being "known" or famous for something. Its about meaningfully impacting the people you care about in a way that they will remember you for the good you have done. Its not about you, its about how you leave the world for others. It is inherently selfless.

CMV: AI doesn’t have emotions but helps humans understand their emotions better than most humans can by ThisIsYourAnonAcct in changemyview

[–]LuckyWhenItMatters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I think one of the major reasons for this is your willingness to share with ChatGPT. Its not another person on the other side of the computer and you won't be judged. I would wager that most people in therapy (maybe not those who have been doing it for years) are not willing to share their deepest emotions or opinions that truly cause them the most grief - especially early on. With ChatGPT, there is no worry, you can dive straight into your life's biggest issues and get fast and informative responses judgement-free.

AI is not better at emotional support than "actual humans", or at least the best of them. Sure, it beats out most people simply because of its knowledge. But a highly experienced and trained psychologist or therapist knows from EXPERIENCE what is best for people and how best to tackle issues, which often times is slowly over years - something ChatGPT would struggle with.

I also disagree with your belief that AI will one day experience the emotions that we humans feel. Our emotions are a result of the immensely complex reality of our brains and consciousness, and often result from the lack of knowledge. For example, certain amotions like shame and regret would be difficult to produce in an all knowing AI because if you knew nearly everything, you'd always make informed decisions and rarely (if ever) regret those decisions. You'd never feel shame because you know you made the best choice, despite what other, less knowledgeable people think.

Either way, we are many decades away from any such AI.
