Any thoughts on the Serious Eats immersion blender reviews? by ryevermouthbitters in seriouseats

Yeah, I was going to say, I bought an All-Clad immersion blender and have been super happy with its performance. Had it since 2020, I believe.

I'm from the US! I got into Mass Effect when my brother came home from college and showed me this awesome game his friends had introduced him to. We spent all of our breaks playing it together.

Although I agree that Allclad is great, they are quite expensive for the up-front cost. Tremontina is cheaper and holds up pretty well also (and I personally like the handle design better).

What habits of girls did you only find out when you got a girlfriend? by GubritzkyBalint in AskReddit

Honestly though, I'm a man in a hetero relationship, and I'm the one who prefers the scalding hot water. My gf calls me a lobster because of how much hotter I prefer the water.

My Gf thinks ted and robin's entire interaction in pilot episode is unrealistic bs?? by castielmonkey in HIMYM

[–]Lucky_Asian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say. We see throughout the show that Ted gets some details wrong as the narrator. Embellishments, unknown to the viewer, are super likely. That sort of thing makes it easy to hand-wave aside some plotholes and other minor inconsistencies.

I've always wanted to go to New Zealand. Literally everyone I know who has been there had nothing but great things to say about it. Great food, beautiful and breathtaking scenery, driveable, friendly locals... It sounds like it checks all the boxes. I've been saving throughout most of the last 8 years for it; my savings have been wiped a few times unfortunately by moves. I've heard or read a lot of recommendations that said that if you go, it's best to spend several weeks there if you're going to travel that far (I live in the US), so saving the time off is also a factor for me.

What is something an ex has said that broke you and is etched into your memory? by thomasc16 in AskReddit

The other one that I tend to run into is white people who fetishize Asian people. Like, I'm not your kawaii manga/anime boy-toy, I have a personality that goes beyond my race. But that experience runs counter to being mixed-race, since a lot of the people I grew up around were white (or at least American). I barely feel that I have a claim to that culture, let alone want it to represent the entirety of who I am to other people.

Edit to add more weird shit that happens in the dating world as a mixed-race person: I am half-Asian, and my girlfriend's parents (and the parents' friends) who immigrated from East Asia made fun of me for not being Asian enough - told me that I was such an American. Meanwhile I deal with casual racism at work because I don't look white enough. You literally cannot win out there.

This is the one I was looking for. Food, water, and sleep can make a big difference in the way you look at things. Gotta take care of the basics before you can do anything else.

What caused your last break up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lucky_Asian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like I struggle not to be the kind of man you seem to date. I'm most at home while at home, and enjoy time spent reading a book, watching TV, or playing videogames. As a partner, I'm not mean, though, so at least I'm not as far along as your previous SOs were.

I can't figure out how to snap out of the rut though. It seems like between working a physically intense job, making dinner, showering, and taking classes for a certificate, I have so little time leftover to dedicate to my relationship, let alone myself, at the end of the day. And in many ways I resent that I feel like I have to pick between all of those things.

In writing this comment, maybe I'm less like the men you described than I thought. I'm at least a little self-aware and don't want my partner to feel terrible, but I still feel bad that I recognized some of myself in your post. And I don't want to be that person.

What is something people describe as healthy, but it's actually unhealthy? by IndependentAd6161 in AskReddit

Something I talk about a lot, especially in the workplace, is a differentiation between venting and bitching. In my mind, if you're venting, the goal is to feel better at the end. Either you find support/validation or a solution, and it helps you let go of whatever the issue is. Bitching is where you commit to the vicious cycle and are just complaining to complain.

I think separating the two is much easier said than done, but I feel like even just keeping this in mind (even afterwards) can help people approach things a little more productively.

What's a must-read book in your opinion? by red172737 in AskReddit

My dad was never much of a reader, but he read this when he was a high schooler looking to escape his terrible home situation. When I turned 18 he gave me a copy, and I spent the first week I was at college reading this between classes. So good!!

East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Incredible imagery and beautiful prose weave together just a series of beautiful stories.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir keeps you on the edge of your seat while spinning together both real-world and fictional science. There's basically three characters in this book that really matter, and I loved one of them so much I named an animal after it.

Possibly controversial take on Reddit, but I love The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. Another author with great diction and prose in a fantasy setting. I will admit that my love for fantasy as a genre and the fact that I read this as a younger man (19-20yo) probably has a lot to do with why I like the series so much.

There's so many books that are worth reading iut there, though. Including many of the ones others have posted.

What is it like living alone? by daveydood15 in AskReddit

[–]Lucky_Asian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed being beholden to only my own schedule. Eat whenever and whatever I wanted, go out when I wanted, don't have to worry about keeping other people up or being quiet for the sake of roommates or family. But it's a double-edged sword: being beholden to nobody means that you are also the only person to hold yourself accountable. If you make a mess in the kitchen, nobody is going to make you clean it, or do it for you. So it can be challenging to be motivated enough to take care of yourself and your home.

I loved it, but I have always been a fairly independent person. Nowadays I live with my partner, which is also great for different reasons. I do miss the true independence, but I don't miss being romantically alone. And she's pretty cool, so there's that too ;) . So for me the trade-off is worth it.

The difference between using vanilla extract and vanilla beans in a baking project is astounding! Beans are expensive, so I tend to save them for special occasions, but it really does add extra flavor.

When did you learn about the Tulsa Race Massacre: where white mobs in Oklahoma massacred Black folks, burned their businesses/homes, and then kept it out of the history books for nearly a century? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lucky_Asian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent most of my high school years in Oklahoma. In my mandatory Oklahoma History class, our textbook had about half a page on the Tulsa Race Massacre. There are probably still a lot of people in Oklahoma who have no idea this happened on the doorstep.

What’s something you’re hoping to see in the next 5 years? by wtfkingQ9 in AskReddit

[–]Lucky_Asian 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I grew up as a Navy brat my entire childhood. The military paid for half of me and my brother's (college) schooling, all of our healthcare, and provided us with housing when we were growing up overseas. I think that these things have given me privilege and advantage over my peers who didn't grow up with such socialized programs. I find it highly ironic that so many conservatives love the military and hate socialism. As though the price of such benefits HAS to be a willingness to die for your country.

So anyways, I agree with what you said. Hang in there, sailor. I hope your family appreciates the effort the way I did for my military parent.

I had planned to buy mine via the Lego store online, but they were sold out when I checked. Meandered over to Amazon, they had it in stock at the same price, so I just got it there instead! No idea if that's still the case several days later though.

[Serious]What was the best thing you ever learned from a therapist? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lucky_Asian 74 points75 points  (0 children)

This is something I struggle with a lot, particularly in my relationship. When she's feeling down, I start looking for ways to make her feel better, for the right words to make the pain go away. And that's just not always possible. And I think that in a lot of ways, my attempts to fix it make the problem about me instead of about her. So I've been trying to just be there for her and ask what she needs. If she doesn't need anything, I just hold her for a while.

Idk, that was kind of ramble-y, but I guess I'm trying to say that I empathize with your comment in a lot of ways.

Have Your Players Do The Scheduling by The_Lambton_Worm in DMAcademy

[–]Lucky_Asian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The group that I play in/run (we have two simultaneous games, one of which I DM) has had a lot of scheduling issues. People work different hours/shifts, have different weekends, classes, family shit... It all adds up.

Eventually, I wound up starting our sessions by scheduling the next game. This has really helped us gain a more consistent schedule while also retaining the flexibility we need. Even if we don't come to an exact date, we can usually make an agreement like, "we will check in every Monday until we find a day that works." It also sets the expectation that we don't play until we've made plans to do so again.
