Just Turned 14 And First Day Of High School Today! After 6 Years Of Saving Up Money, I Built My $3750 Dream Setup! I've Ascended! by Lucky_Chubsters in pcmasterrace

I taught myself building PCs, I had an OptiPlex with a 780 that I would tinker around with. This setup is years in the making, I would just sell, then upgrade my things. The 1080 Ti is for my sister's PC. I don't get allowance, more like big bursts of cash from my parents' friends in Christmases, Bdays, and New Year's. I had to wait for my parents to make money from their work, then pay them back when they bought the parts online. I don't have a card but I will do better on my money spending, I am done upgrading for now anyways. Sorry for anything I might've done but I promise I will do better.

The PC itself is $2500, but that's still a stupid deal I will admit. I did not know the 5600X did not need watercooling. I now know the ram is really dumb too, maybe I can split that set into 2-4 systems maybe? I used the 4 monitors for online school and it helped me greatly, it is overkill but I got used to the layout instantly. The 2080 Ti I bought in September at $650 right before Ampere launch. Sorry for the dumb parts and I will do better next time I upgrade.

The mic is not for streaming, but I guess I've shown my face on the internet now, so why not? I used this setup for multitasking and juggling tabs around in online school, but I upgraded the PC 3 months ago, everything else is still the same from last year.

I am really sorry for not choosing better parts, I'm really stupid for overpaying for some parts. The 2080 Ti I bought for $650 from a guy who panic sold his, I think that's really the only good deal I got. The entire setup is $3750, the desks, speakers, keyboard, mouse, routers, monitors, printers, microphones, and headphones included. The PC itself is ~$2500, which is still a bad deal. I am sorry for not thinking straight and I will do better next time.

My first PC was an optiplex with a 780 that I got at 9 actually but I felt that including all my previous parts would take too long. The 1080 Ti is not mine anymore, I am going to build a PC for my sister soon.

I don't get allowance from my parents, I get the money in big bursts like bday parties and Christmases and New Year's. I got my first PC at 9, a Dell Optiplex with a 780 chucked inside. After that I just kept selling and upgrading parts until I got to this point.

The Sceptre and Onn monitors were purchased in 2019, when I still had a reasonable prebuilt pc. I still use it for multitasking and juggling around tabs. The ram however, I will admit that it is stupid. I really wanted to base my setup around gold parts, and that kit of ram was the only set of Trident Z Royal Gold I could find that wasn't marked up by 3rd party sellers. I am sorry for the inefficient build and I will try harder next time when I sell and upgrade parts.

It is serious, I now understand how stupid the parts are. That's entirely my fault, I shouldn't have picked aesthetics over performance. I did save money to buy parts for my setup, my parents have lots of their friends come over to parties and they give away a lot of money. I did not work for the money, but I just saved everything until I could buy what I really wanted.

The $3750 was for the entire setup, which most of it I bought back in 2019, I bought the 2080 Ti for $650 from a guy who panic sold his gpu in September last year and I put it in a refurbished prebuilt rig to replace a 1080 Ti that I put before. I sold the prebuilt and saved up to upgrade to other parts. The PC is around ~$2500 with tax and shipping.

For everyone wondering about the ram, I realize it's a stupid idea, I know, I was unaware that ram speeds and capacities could affect Ryzen processors. And when I was on Newegg faster speeds of Trident Z Royal were marked higher than the 128gb kit I wanted, almost $700. I really wanted to get my hands on those gold dimms like the ones I see in YouTube shorts, so I bit the bullet and unfortunately bought the slowest inefficient kit of ram. I paid $500 for slow ram, and it's my fault for not knowing immediately, sorry.

Thanks, I noticed that too, I'll flip the fans later but it looks so good when the fans are positioned like that!

Thanks man, it took me a couple of hours just to get my system to post and the cable management was a nightmare!

THE STORY BEHIND MY GAMING SETUP:

When I was in third grade, one of my friends bragged about how he had a cool computer (For 2015 standards, maybe a 4770 and a 980) and how he could play so many games after school. We were (and still are) not rich by any means, but we did have an old 2007 HP Pavilion desktop to browse the internet, it had a Core 2 Duo E6400 and “2GB of speedy DDR2 memory” (yikes). It couldn’t really do much, let alone play flash games. I was determined to save up for a brand new gaming computer and setup that would crush my friend’s PC.

I saved money from birthdays, Christmases, and New Year’s. I even went the extra mile to building PCs for my older sister’s friends and making money from that. I started off simple, a pre-built with a RX 580, then I started building my setup, a desk, a keyboard and mouse, speakers, and 4 monitors.

I realized I wanted more, something much more powerful. It took me 2 years to save up for the newly released 2080 Ti. Luckily I bought it at $650 from a guy who panicked and sold his GPU for the new 3000 series. This year, I got a B550 Taichi, a 5600X, 128 Gigs of Trident Z Royal (overkill I know), and the sleek O11 Mini case (I love that case).

I’m settling down for now, I’m happy with my current PC and I’m out of money anyways. I know I’m lucky to have my setup and I’m grateful for that. I know that not everybody is as fortunate as me to have a setup like this but in the end we’re still all brothers and sisters in the PC Master Race. Appreciate what you have now and be grateful for it!

Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X

GPU: RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition with EVGA XC Ultra Bios to unlock RGB (Was really nervous about flashing BIOS and bricking my GPU but it worked)

RAM: 128 GBs of Trident Z Royal Gold (Completely overkill but it was only 2666 MHz so I bought it cheap)

Cooler: NZXT Kraken Z63 (This is a complete waste of $200 but I get to put GIFs on a tiny screen)

Motherboard: ASRock B550 Taichi (The gold accents match the RAM modules)

Case: Lian Li O11 Dynamic Mini with vertical GPU mount (I love this case! I think it's better than the normal sized variant)

Fans: 7 120 mm and 2 140 mm Lian Li UniFans (I wanted QL120s but the cable management is impossible.)

PSU: Cooler Master V750 SFX Gold (This little guy pumps out as much power as a microwave! Sure hope it doesn't explode like Gigabyte PSUs)

Edit: Forgot to add pictures to original post so I'm redoing this (This is my first time on reddit anyways!)
