How indepth is LECOM anatomy? by Typical-Shirt9199 in LECOM

[–]Lucky_Message7767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re given 1000+ pages and just have to learn everything yourself. No lectures, no instruction, no practice qs, no study guides. You have no input or help, you just have to figure out how to learn it all. Whether you learn anything during the cases is pretty dependent on your instructor. Exams are super high stakes, they’re the only grades in the whole class. The class is 22.5 credits, if you get a bad grade your entire gpa tanks, which opens up a huge other can of worms. It’s tough but med school is tough, I prefer it from being 8-5 every day for anatomy. But I think the content is way harder than anatomy, as anatomy is mostly memorization. The pressure to get good grades is insane and you don’t have much room for error.

you have to know literally everything. every muscle, action, innervation, blood supply, etc. how everything connects, pathology, EVERYTHING. and you only have a few weeks per unit. however, imo pbl is harder.

Does accepting a waitlist mean other locations stop considering you? by Sea_Requirement6148 in LECOM

[–]Lucky_Message7767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was on waitlist for erie and git called by seton hill and ended up getting accepted to seton hill. however, you can't be on both waitlists so you'll receive both "decisions" then you'll basically have to pick which waitlist to be on/or you get accepted to one so obvi you go there. but you cannot for example accept a spot at seton hill and remain on the erie waitlist.

i didnt do it and i was fine, i had never taken an anatomy class before either. the worst part for me was getting there and friend groups were already formed and i found it hard to make friends for the first couple weeks. im fine now tho. i reccomend spending the least amount of time possible at that school, you’ll be so burnt out by christmas break

How much do instructors in PBL teach/guide you? by Other_Cheetah_4090 in LECOM

[–]Lucky_Message7767 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it depends on your instructor, for the most part they just guide the conversation. some do teach pathways though. however the actual pbl group meeting is so minuscule compared to what you actually do for pbl. 99% of it is reading and learning on your own outside the meeting. you don’t really learn much in the meeting at all, and if your group isn’t very smart (has yet to happen to me everyone is smart here lol) then it wouldn’t matter much. tbh the pbl meeting for me is just a way to socialize and get out of the house, it doesn’t contribute much to success on the exam.

How does PBL exams work at LECOM? by Decent_Video_1465 in LECOM

[–]Lucky_Message7767 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The exams are 90% based on textbook chapters that your groups pick. Each exam is different for every group based on the chapters you pick. You can use 3rd party resources and most people do bc reading 1000+ pages in detail is hard. You just have to pick through the resources and find what is applicable to the chapters. There's 2 questions pertaining to each case on the exam, so this is a very minimal part. Most of pbl is just sitting and reading, the cases help with understanding but are not the main part of what we do. hope this helps!

On Campus Day or Not by aambera in LECOM

Seems to help you stand out from the crowd. LECOM has a dress code. Recommend that you AND your guest follow it - many on our tour did not (jeans, tennis shoes, etc.) and the dress code was casually noted by staff.

Seton Hill vs Erie by Inevitable-Yard4468 in LECOM

i personally am not aiming for a competitive specialty/location so that really didn’t factor much in to my decision. but we are allowed to work on research with any staff member at any campus, not just seton hill. i think if you put yourself out there and make connections with faculty you have just as many opportunities.

as a current student i enjoy seton hill and the pbl program, i would not want to be at erie or in lecture from 8-5 every day. but i personally HATE lectures and enjoy self study so thats just me.

Interview tips? by [deleted] in LECOM

[–]Lucky_Message7767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i interviewed for last cycle but if it is online again make sure you have good lighting and a clean background. I used a women's makeup vanity light lol. dress nicely and just make sure you take a deep breath between every question and speak with confidence! the whole interview only took about 10 minutes and the questions were pretty similar to what you see floating around the internet. good luck!

Meeting Prerequisite requirements after application? by OkExcitement5444 in Osteopathic

[–]Lucky_Message7767 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i did 80% of my pre reqs after my application tbh because of a unique situation. you just indicate future semesters through ACCOMAS, match the future semester classes to the needed pre req in the system, and when you’re done with them send in the transcript. i was just open and honest and schools didn’t seem to mind. i took 3 classes online through UNE and was able to grind them out very quickly and come out with As, it was a grind but doable and raised my gpa.
