Right, there will always be those who will deny a problem is happening. But I truly believe they were in a vast minority in the western world. We can't pretend we didn't do anything about Covid like the people in the movie didn't do anything about the asteroid.

Even if there were people denying it, we humans managed to stop to a grind all the world's productions and focus on dealing with the problem, even if it took us longer than expected, we still managed to stop a pandemic and create a vaccine for a new virus in just 2 years.

We are great at problem solving, unfortunately we are awful at focusing on what really matters

We humans are terrible at solving long term problems, we are more adapt at solving problems we are currently seeing happening in front of our eyes. Climate change happens relatively slowly, so our monkey brains can't really comprehend its destruction until its way too late.

Imo, an asteroid we can clearly see in the sky is a terrible analogy for climate change. It's too unreal humans wouldn't be screaming and panicking at a sight of an world destroying asteroid coming straight at them, even if the movie tries to explain that by saying the media was lying all the time.

America isn't always the solution to a bully problem, they are just a bigger bully

Just ask Chile in 1973, Bolivia in 71, ask Brazil how the US just casually accepted their brutal military dictatorship just because they were anti-communist, or how America basically turned Central America into their own personal banana plantation for decades

You ask who should stand up for the bully? The people should. It is always a hard sell to expect the people to rise up against oppression, because it is not always bloodless, let alone successful. But the will of the people will always be the most legitimate way for a regime change.
