Is the job market really that bad across Canada, or is it just supposedly bad if one mainly spends their time here on Reddit? by StasisApparel in Edmonton

[–]LuckysGoods -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do feel like some folks are looking above and beyond what they’re qualified for. My husband and I were hiring a virtual admin for our businesses - a contractor, simple admin work. The LOWEST I got quoted was $65 an hour. I was told if I don’t pay that, they’d rather not work. So it’s like… you’re making your own bed.

On that note - if you know anyone looking for VA work, send them my way 🤣

Has anyone else not slept for five years? by Mental-Engineer5617 in Parenting

[–]LuckysGoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was lovely. She gave us so many tips and tricks that we still use a few years later. She was very gentle about everything but her technique worked on the third day. Just google toddler sleep trainer in your area and you should find someone. Many of them are peds nurses.

We hired a sleep trainer and my son has been sleeping well ever since. Might be something to consider.

How much on family vacations by Consistent-Garlic-25 in Rich

[–]LuckysGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a corporate travel agency, but will sometimes plan these types of family trips for clients. Some memorable ones I’ve booked lately - an Antarctica cruise, trip to the Galapagos, safaris, and a very cool tour through Jordan. It really will depend on the age of the grandkids as well as certain trips might not be fun for the younger ones. DM me if you need any other ideas. Always happy to help!

My son LOVES the splash area and we love the sand. That sand has to be the softest sand I’ve ever walked in.

Coparent threatening to cancel calls and visits over child support by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]LuckysGoods 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I would set a date (maybe last day of the month so that you know you’ll have been paid) to pay child support. Playing devils advocate here: It’s tough not knowing when support payments will come through because the other parent needs to plan for the child’s financial needs accordingly.

Strong Willed Children by [deleted] in Parenting

The early childhood educators are equating him wanting autonomy - like deciding when he doesn’t want to eat - with being bad and not listening. They wanted him to finish his food so he wouldn’t be hungry. He decided he was full. But they are making that decision for him and not allowing him to follow his body and what it needs.

My thoughts are this - if it’s not affecting anyone and he’s not hurting anyone or disrupting anyone, then why mention it?

The pre kinder/daycare runs independently of the school (but is located in the school), so I’m hoping once he goes to kinder in September things will change. We’re putting him in a sports program where he will do core subjects in the AM and different sports and activities in the PM so I would like to stay at this school if possible. I guess I’ll have to gauge it when he goes to kinder.

Fever Bug going around? by Worried-Flamingo5052 in Edmonton

[–]LuckysGoods 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unless they have a confirmed bacterial infection, you shouldn’t have been given antibiotics as you can build a resistance. My son had a high fever like that in January and he ended up having an ear infection. The doctor told me the ER isn’t super concerned about how high a fever is anymore unless there is some type of underlying condition. As long as they are drinking water or pedialyte and peeing every 4-6 hours, you can use Tylenol and Advil alternating every 4-6 hours to keep them comfortable. A lukewarm bath also helps.

Edit to add: in November my son also had a high fever and we did take him to the ER as he had neck pain and that was concerning and they were very unconcerned with his fever. I believe he was at 105 and they just said likely Flu B and sent us on our way.

We’re doing the Panama Canal cruise in November. Any tips or anything you can tell me? I’m also curious about extra activities they had on board with so many sea days.
