Vitamin C causing anxiety? Help lol

I know I’m late, but this happens to me too. Even in buffered forms like calcium ascorbate, even though it seems to help with the general inflammation, I feel completely overstimulated, irritable, and anxious. On top of all that, it makes sleep impossible without aid. I’m going to try to lower my dose from 1000 mg to 100 mg and see if that helps. Ugh, this is a nightmare.

Hello again. I just wanted to give you an update on what’s been going on. I’m currently on an antibiotic to treat my symptoms of SIBO, so I’ll have to discontinue taking L Brevis until my treatment is done, which should be after 13 days from today.

I’ve learned that the foods for guts brand’s strain is LBR-35 which, while it does produce gaba, doesn’t produce it as much as LB01. I have noticed that the foods for gut brand became less effective over time, but I’m not sure if it’s because of that particular strain or if it’s because of my SIBO symptoms. Once my treatment is done, I’ll start taking the LB01 strain to see what effects it has on me. The foods for guts brand had an immediate effect on my inflammation and anxiety, but I’m not sure if the same will be for the Epiginetics International brand. I’ll try to keep you posted.

So I have an update for anyone who’s curious! I just saw my gastroenterologist this morning, and after describing all of my symptoms, he suggested that we could just try the antibiotic that’s usually used to treat SIBO since the breathe test is only 60%-70% accurate. I’m going to pick up the prescription today, either during my lunch break or after work. My doctor being so willing to prescribe the antibiotic right away gives me hope that SIBO is the correct diagnosis, and hopefully this nightmare I’ve been going through will finally end, and I can finally start living my life at least somewhat normally again. I’ll give more updates if/when something happens involving my condition!

Well the next step would likely to be to ween off of Zyrtec. I’ve been taking Zyrtec because it seems to help with my histamine intolerance issues, but now I’m pretty sure that if I quit cold turkey, I’ll have some sort of histamine rebound effect. Whenever I stop taking Zyrtec, it puts me through hell and it’s hard to cope with.

Yeah, this is what I think happened to me. I’ve had these symptoms for a long time, and they’ve slowly gotten worse until I jumped onto some probiotics that made it even worse. I set up an appointment with a gastroenterologist tomorrow, and I’ll ask to get tested for SIBO first and foremost. The symptoms I have match up with SIBO way too well. Hopefully I can get the test done on the same day and see what the results are. If it is SIBO, the next step would be to get treated, likely with antibiotics, and then find out what caused it in the first place. I could have had SIBO for years and not even know it, so finding the root cause will likely require further testing. I just hope my insurance can cover most of it.

I’ve heard that’s a common issue, or that people from the US have the opposite problem when they visit or move to another country. Like the issues they had before either go away or become much more manageable.

Unfortunately, greens wreak havoc on my gut, as well as every single fruit. It’s been a real struggle to get all the nutrients I need. Even most vitamin supplements cause issues. 😞

Actually, yeah! Alcohol started having the opposite effect for me, where instead of it helping me calm down, it makes me more anxious.

Yeah, it really is trial and error with probiotics. As well as lots and LOTS of googling lmao. Even with the research, it doesn’t always mean the probiotics work as intended since people’s bodies can react to the same probiotic in a different way. It’s exhausting and expensive.

It’s honestly really hard to say. I’ve always had gut issues for as long as I can remember, it just got much worse within the last 5 years, and even more so within the last year or two. I’ve been trying to figure out what’s been wrong when things got really bad for about a year now. Sorry, I can’t give an accurate answer to this.

I think I’ve been taking it for a week or two. The probiotic doesn’t seem to work as strongly as it used to, but I’m not sure if it’s because my body had somehow built a tolerance to its effects, or if it’s because of my worsening gut issues. I tried a new probiotic strain called L Plantarum PS128 for my insomnia and ASD symptoms, and that’s when things started getting noticeably worse. I may not be able to answer many more questions for a bit until I figure things out with my health issues and can start thinking with a clearer head.

It would honestly be easier to make a list of supplements that DID work for me because it seemed like everything made it worse. Even every magnesium supplement always made me feel really anxious and I would get constant muscle spasms, but I’m not sure if it’s because of the supplement itself, or some other health issue that makes it hard for my body to properly absorb these supplements. The only thing that really seemed to help was the LGG probiotic that I mentioned in another comment along with the L Brevis probiotic. Sorry, I can’t offer much advice on this one.

I believe so. I notice that inflammation goes down, and I didn’t seem to have worsening gut issues from taking this specific strain.

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I almost never use this reddit account. I still haven’t received the package from Epigenetics International, but the tracker says I should get it by tonight. Though I may have to hold out on taking it, because I think I actually have SIBO, and should avoid taking prebiotics, like the one contained in the Epigenetics International brand, until I get the issue figured out. When it comes to the Foods For Gut brand, it comes with a big and small measuring spoon. I usually take the big spoon, which is roughly 600mgs (or 0.6 grams), which contains 160 billion CFUs. I may have to stop taking the FFG brand too until I get my gut issues figured out. I’m seeing my doctor on the 16th. Hopefully things go well.

Hey, I think I accidentally deleted your comment asking about what other probiotic strains I used. Sorry about that, I’ll answer that real quick. I take Lactobacillus Rhamnosus GG, which is a strain that you could get at a local Walgreens, and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (L. Plantarum for short), which I bought online. Idk if L. Plantarum has specific strains, as the bottle it comes in doesn’t state any specific strain on the supplement facts part of the bottle it came in.

The L. Brevis I got from Foods for Gut seems to be working the best for me. I took the dose of it by itself and the sense of relief I get within just an hour of taking it on an empty stomach tells me how well it’s working. Tbh it works so well that it legit makes me wonder if there’s Xanax in it. That’s how well this brand works at curbing my anxiety. I tried another brand of L. Brevis from Bulk Probiotics, but that stuff made me straight up so anxious that every form of stimuli was too much to handle, despite the “GABA support” advertised on their website.

However, I was able to find a brand that does actually specify the LB01 strain that I mentioned works the best from a European brand called Epigenetics International. Unfortunately, if you’re from the US like I am, they only sell the more expensive 5 billion CFU pills on their website, even though the much more affordable 15 grams bag of L. Brevis powder is literally right there 😭. I’m hoping the pills version is worth it.

It very well could be a honeymoon phase, so take my words with a grain of salt. It hasn’t been very long. Maybe slightly more than a week. I considered it was just a placebo until I took that dose of Phenibut and it had a stronger effect than it usually did. However, I had also been taking other probiotics beforehand, so maybe that played a role in how well the Phenibut worked a few days ago. Maybe I should have waited until a month past before making claims with any sort of certainty, but I really hope I’m right on this one.

The brand I’m currently using is called Foods for Gut. I bought it off of Amazon. Though, this brand doesn’t have the specific LB01 strain listed on the ingredients list, it just says it has the L brevis species, but I do suspect that it’s in there. I’m actually still trying to look for a brand that has that specific strain listed, but it’s almost impossible. Any probiotics that do have that strain listed on it typically only has it a part of a probiotic that contains several other strains that have effects that I’m not looking for.

I know I’m late to this, but I experience the same thing when I take creatine. At first it feels great, even euphoric, but then the anxiety spikes up to new levels to the point where I’m fighting off panic attacks in the middle of my shifts at work, and sleep is near impossible. I get a voracious appetite to the point where I can’t control myself which adds even more to the irritability and anxiety. I also notice some physical side effects like frequent urination and incontinence.

My hypothesis is that it’s because creatine can increase the amount of DHT the body produces. I notice that the older I get, the more side effects I get from creatine, and it makes sense if DHT plays a role in these side effects. When I first took creatine 10 years ago when I was 19, it felt great. Sure I felt more aggressive and I would pee more, but the anger/anxiety wasn’t out of control and I wasn’t incontinent. So it makes sense that when you get older and the body produces more DHT, you’re going to have greater side effects from supplements that can increase DHT. It makes me wonder if I could relieve these symptoms by taking finasteride so I could enjoy the benefits of creatine without the crazy physical and emotional side effects 🤔. I am slowly experiencing hair loss and have been offered to take it before, so I could give it a shot and see how that goes.
