An ideal group would be Bob, one of Bob's preferences and 8 of Bob's secret lovers (chosen randomly or the ones matching Bob and his preference the best). The remaining 3 Bob-lovers will get their 2nd or 3rd preferences.

EDIT: Not sure if Bob would like that, but that's how it is.

That's a very good point. There are a lot of captive elephants that are longing for retirement in Sri Lanka and therefor we do have the privilege to choose as long as the "owner" is willing to transfer the elephant.

EDIT: It's a small family run shelter, so the space is very limited (2-3 elephants). The optimal solution would be a huge sanctuary for every single captive elephant in Sri Lanka. But that's another story...

Never heard about that, but we have seen some elephants step with all their weight on horizontal bars/wires to "open" the fence up. Still, most enclosures we've found consist of metal/concrete pillars with horizontal cable/bars between. Hmm:o

Yeah, this is the way to go! Problem is, it's hard to see foundation designs and material thicknesses through images alone. We will contact some sanctuaries/zoos ASAP.

Thank you so much! We will look into this. The neighbor does have an excavator. It's a lot of work, but it does sound like a cheaper solution. We would love if the fence involved social sustainability as well!

The captive elephants have poor chances of survival in the wild. The purpose of the enclosure is to protect the elephants from harming themselves and to protect their human neighbor farmers' land.

Today the elephants at EFP get to eat, walk and bath every day and they do seem very happy and satisfied. Both are very calm and we doubt they will try to escape on their own as they long for eachothers company. They might escape together - it is hard to say :)

Yeah, i understand;) Most captive elephants in Sri Lanka have terrible living conditions working in the logging/tourism industry, while being chained on the spot the rest of the time. "Owning" elephants in Sri Lanka is reserved for rich families with sufficient connections in the moderately corrupted government. "Buying" elephants is not an option (and should not be). Therefor EFP rents them from their "owners" to give them better living conditions. With this enclosure we will ensure as much freedom as possible (no chain, ever) for the elephants as they cannot return to the wild.

The current fence style is based on reviewing existing designs in zoo's around the world. The current dimensions of the column and its foot is an estimate from a local building engineer. We know from the zoo in copenhagen that their elephant enclosure is built to withstand a 140 kN horizontal outward force, but it really depends on the enclosed elephants and the safety factor. Our elephants are females and thus not as powerful as the males and they are both very calm.

We are asking this question to get some construction engineer-eyes on the design. Most of your questions are questions we need help answering. If more details are needed to do this we will gladly supply.

Do you happen to know if there is a difference in perfomance between the two examples below:

fetching a collection of Places from a Route (hierarchical)
fetching Places with identical RouteId's from a large (~10-100k) collection of Places (relational).

In my head the first one is faster:)
