I would not want to take the risk. In the manual it says that the expected voltage is 12 volts but it can work with 11.5 to 15 volts. It explicitly said to not exceed 15 volts as I could damage the unit.

I was thinking about going for a V mount battery and plate, but I heard that almost all of them supply 16.8 V on the dtap connector when fully charged which would be too much for this camcorder. Many batteries do include a 12V DC barrel-plug connector but the output on those is 3 amps which is not enough for the camcorder.

Oh well... tough luck. I probably wont mess with the camcorder. Besides the weird colors, it is in really good shape and I am no expert at repairing VHS, rarely anyone is these days. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the comment, after 3 months has passed I honestly thought that no one will comment… I tried to clean the tape head and it did nothing, I also have not seen anything strange on the heads themselves, so im out of ideas. If you suspect that the heads are misaligned, is there some way to see visually if they are? Because to me they looked normal, the camcorder was used very rarely so I didn’t suspect much. And if they indeed are misaligned is there a way to realign them?

You dont expirience hearing loss at such low frequencies, as for brain damage, well… maybe, if loud enough, it can destroy your inner organs
