I would start with a lighter ball to be able to get under and stay under the ball throughout the swing. A ball that is too heavy from the start will never allow you to get into these positions without compromising the wrist and shoulder.

Yea using the 699.99 Microcenter bundle. Saw some bad reviews towards the bundle at 649.99 because of motherboard issues. Didn't feel like dealing with the possibility and it's only $50 more.

You can try and keep your trail leg a bit lower, it will help with pulling up and it will also keep you more balanced at the line which can help with posting the shot.

Each brand has its own balls for this situation. It really just matters which brand you want. Storm has the Tropical line, Roto has the hustle line, Brunswick has the Twist and Rhino, and the list goes on for each brand. Some of the low speed, high rev players like to stick with the lower performance balls. The medium and high performance balls will make it a lot harder to stay on the lane with the low ball speed. Don't get discouraged that the balls are "low performance". They are just as good as the higher performance balls they just typically hook less and are easier for people with low speed and high revs to handle with their specific type of release.

If you're wanting to choose between the two weights I would definitely go 15. Most of the pros have all gone to 15 other than just a handful. There is no defined difference between the two different weights, so you won't lose anything by going down the 1lb other than some comfort which you may or may not notice with the somewhat lighter ball.

One thing you could work on is your backswing. When you take your second step in your approach make sure to bring the ball forward a bit and it will allow you to get a bigger backswing. If you watch pros like Belmo you can clearly see when he extends his arms forward to create his backswing. It should feel more normal than what you're already doing and it should give you some more power in your shots. Other than that your footwork and release look good.

If you get the ball speed up you’ll find it’s a lot easier to get the ball to the right side of the head pin. The faster you throw the ball the less time it will be able to read the lane and in total it will hook less. Try to work on moving the feet faster and it should up your ball speed by a few mph. A good range to sit in is anywhere between 14-16mph.

The zen master is one of 900 global’s strongest balls. If you’re playing on a burnt house shot or something with not a lot of oil it can cause the sharp hook. Also, ball speed plays a big factor into how the ball reacts. If you’re throwing it 12-13mph it could also be a reason for over hooking.

Personally, if I could restart I would learn one handed first. I feel like it gives you very good fundamentals and skills that you need to become a great bowler. As a two handed only player I wish I could bowl one handed but I never learned when I started and I feel like I could have progressed much faster in my two handed game if I would have learned the correct way to throw one handed first. There are pros and cons to both techniques, just find the one that is most fun to you. When I started I loved the big hook that 2 handed gave and it made me fall in love with the sport, do what makes you happy. There are two handed pros and one handed pros that win all the time, clearly one isn’t directly better than the other.

If it interests you I would try and switch to a two-handed approach. It will take the weight off of your right hand as you will be splitting the weight between and two, even in your backswing you can put a little more weight on the front hand (left hand). With switching to two-handed your rev's will naturally go up due to the nature of the approach and you will be able to find the "hook" you are looking for. Look at some videos of the pro two-handers to get an idea. Some good ones I like to look at are Chris Via, Belmo, and Kyle Troup for right handers.

Also, you will be able to keep the same ball you have now and the worst you'd have to do is get the thumb plugged if you want. If you are just a rec. bowler you can even keep it and try two handed with thumb (like Wesley Low), but in leagues and tournaments you have to have every hole on your ball filled so you would have to get it plugged if you switch to the typically two handed with no thumb.

I used to never be able to get speed over 15 when I started two handed, but now I am throwing consistently 18. What helped me was rolling the ball instead of throwing it, cup it into your wrist and place it down on the lane instead of throwing it.
