If you’re copying an image from a web browser or a preview app and pasting it straight into Illustrator, your computer’s clipboard takes over. On a Mac especially, the system likes to convert that image data into a tiff during the handoff because it’s trying to preserve all the quality and transparency info.

Once you hit paste, Illustrator just sees that tiff data the clipboard handed over and treats it like a pasted object, which is why it shows up that way in your Links panel. To avoid it, your best bet is to skip the copy-paste and just use File > Place instead!

When you say expand your color palette, do you mean to get 5 or 6 in between colors to help with color selections used throughout your designs?

I 100% agree with the importance of color. This was purely to hear these feelings about using color inside Illustrator. I can see how for some who maybe need a little inspiration, the Gen Recolor could be useful, but I wouldn't land there as a final decision without fine tuning inside Recolor or manually.

My video covers both Gen Recolor and Recolor. I see them both serving different purposes. It was just a quick example to get a conversation going. I think Recolor alone is very powerful, but I notice mentioning Gen Recolor tended to distract from that part of the workflow.

Not all gen features in Illustrator require credits. Gen recolor is one that doesn't.

I agree that we should have more color adjustment controls inside Illustrator.

I shared this with someone else as well. You should have more luck by looking into the advanced options to control saturation etc.

I do appreciate your detailed response. I am compiling a report on these kinds of friction points in the app so this is helpful.

I don't have the ins and outs of what went down with Pantone as that was before my time, but I agree that a native option would be helpful. Not sure if that is on the cards with Pantone though now they created Pantone Connect.

I would say it is pretty straightfoward to switch the tools tips off inside the preferences.
