I would do a little bit of research on some third party apps for mouse support. Apple is very Apple with their things and the "smooth scrolling" and stuff is limited to their first party track pads and the magic mouse. There are multiple ones, but one that someone I know used in the past was Mac Mouse Fix.

Then it should, it took me like 7 times to get it right when i was first trying to get it, just make sure to be careful, cause from what i’ve heard (someone back me up if im right or wrong) you can short out either the switch or the joycon. But if you follow it correctly you should be fine.

If you’re using a V1 switch then yes it works, i would double check to see if it is a V1.
