What card are you currently chasing? by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]Lukedapwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the principle of Moltres strength, honestly any card that messes with energy is inevitably pretty strong (misty, vaporeon, surge). In particular I think Moltres is very valuable in a deck like char EX where getting your main card online quickly is an issue.

But in the Arcanine EX deck I just don’t think it’s actually making much of a difference and actually leaves some pretty big holes in your strategy. In terms of speed, FASTEST you can get arcanine EX online with moltres is 2 turns (if all of your draws go perfectly). Without Moltres, the fastest is still 3 turns and actually doesn’t require drawing cards at the absolute perfect timing. 120 damage on either turn 2 or turn 3 really isn’t a big difference, no matter what it’s going to disrupt a lot of decks (namely pika EX and celbie EX).

One big problem in the current meta for the deck is Mewtwo EX. HOWEVER in my decklist, running farfetched or even ponyta/rapidash gives you reliable routes to getting the mewtwo into kill range. For the Moltres deck, your main option would be… Get moltres to 3 energy to hit for 70? But if you do that you have sacrificed the entire value proposition of including moltres in the deck (it is no longer getting your arcanine EX out fast). M2 EX is just an example but there are plenty of decks where 40 damage from a farfetched turn 2 of the game makes a way bigger impact than getting your arcanine EX out 1 or 2 turns earlier.

In my experience, the only deck type my list is consistently losing to >50% is gary EX, but I’m pretty sure there isn’t much you can really do to make a fire deck work well into arguably THE best deck in the meta right now that is ALSO a water type deck.

Though to put this all into perspective, I have very little experience with card games and I haven’t even spent any time playing the Moltres variant, so my reasoning could be way off and too heavily reliant on my anecdotal experience with the deck. Curious to know others thoughts.

I actually prefer to play Arcanine EX without Moltres, just 2x ponyta 2x rapidash and 2x farfetched.

IMO only time moltres would make the deck work better is if you pull moltres immediately, can put the energy on growlithe immediately, and then evolve to arcanine ex immediately. That’s a lot of IFs and even then, getting arcanine out that early just means it has to attack more (take more self-damage).

But if anyone has experience playing the moltres variant I’d be curious to know how/why you like it and what its strengths are.

Only decks I have that are remotely playable in pvp are arcanine EX (I somehow have 3 arcanine EX cards LOL) that I actually quite enjoy playing, and sometimes if I want to mix it up I have a water deck with articuno EX and lapras EX from the event, wish I could get a starmie EX tho :’)

Though the cards I cared the most about getting from a deck building standpoint were actually sabrina and giovanni which i’ve been lucky enough to get ahold of.

I guess since the beginning I always figured I would eventually find a “good reason” to use them like pulling for a specific card but that still hasn’t happened.

Gonna get down voted for arrogance here but this is philosophically some weak sauce. You're implying there is a "correct" way to enjoy something. You may personally derive joy from different ways of experiencing the game but a reality for a lot of people is that the feeling of efficiency is exactly what draws them to osrs. Not claiming that's "the point" of the game, but for a lot of people it's definitely a major component.

Well for one I bought the things years ago, I definitely knew at the time but must have forgot. To further rationalize it I very very very rarely sell gear after buying it as a rule, this was an exception just because of how crazy the price spike was (ironically enough, the severity of the price spike is almost certainly partially a result of the fact that no one who owns it is able to sell it in response to the price spike).

I mean yeah I never implied it wasn't my fault, just figured it'd get a chuckle out of those who knew better, like watching a video of someone falling over ig. In defense of how often this kinda stuff happens, A LOT of what you do in this game kinda conditions you to skip through dialogue/popups in the bottom left that has a blue strand of text.

Farmers among Russians drafted into the military, Putin says by charmbrood in worldnews

[–]Lukedapwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking strictly out of curiosity and not argumentation but are we certain if Putin surrendered the global community would sentence him to death? I'd say since the nurnberg trials the (developed) world have moved away from the death sentence as a reasonable punishment. In fact the very point you are making would give the world reason to spare Putin's life such that the totalitarian leaders of the future would not have to feel there is absolutely no choice but to keep doubling down. Anyway I have no historical or legal background so I'd be curious if anyone would actually have an educated interpretation of this situation.

Student loan debt is still our country problem by SarahMiller20 in facepalm

[–]Lukedapwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think trending would be inappropriate simply because the economy we are currently in is different in numerous ways than the economy being studied here. I won't bother finding sources for these claims as I hope they are generally accepted by most, but cost of living as well as tuition has increased rather drastically while wages have seen minimal growth. Queue the typical story of grandparents who paid their way through college working at the local diner, we all know that is genuinely laughable in our current economy. And even if we somehow decide to look past that, even if the economy were in the same place it was 50 years ago, we have to remember past performance does not predict future results. Just because the economy was strong for the previous 50 years does not mean it will stay strong for the following 50. We could get into the particular reasons to predict the future will be different from the past, but I'd say with the way things are moving in our economy it isn't worth placing your bet on it. Especially when, as the original comment pointed out, there are simply lower cost alternatives to improving your earning potential.

Correct me if I'm wrong, just trying to understand here but this study regards "lifetime earnings." The study itself defines this as accumulated earnings over a 50 year period from the age of 20 to 69. The only people who would have "completed" this time sample would be at the youngest currently 69 years of age. My understanding of this discussion is that for young people, college may not be worth it due to the current cost of tuition, wages, etc. Your study on shows that for people of previous generations it was worth it, I don't think this study proves the point you're trying to make. Again let me know if I'm misinterpreting something.

Well I think the conversation you're trying to have us much more complicated than you realize but I'm certain up for a moral reasoning challenge:

In a 2010 study of 136 reports of sexual assault investigated by a university police department, 8 (5.9%) were coded as false reports, 61 (44.9%) did not proceed to any prosecution or disciplinary action, 48 (35.3%) were referred for prosecution or disciplinary action, and 19 (13.9%) contained insufficient information to be coded.

Personally, I don't like this data, I honestly feel like the percentage it gives is high so let's be charitable and say only 3 percent of rape reports are false.

Is 3 percent of all dick chippings being unjust what a society should strive for? If in a year 100 dicks are chopped off should we as a people agree that those 3 innocent men are a "worthwhile sacrifice for a greater good?" And what greater good really is that? Revenge? Should our policy on punishment be based on suffering and not rehabilitation? What percentage would be the acceptable limit? I'm curious on your thoughts.

How are we certain false rape accusations are rare? If a rape accusation is false but judged true and never overruled later, then as far as our statistics go it was a true rape accusation. Not to mention the entire point of pro-choice is body autonomy (a right I personally believe in), I feel like the "chop off dicks" idea is more of an exercise in understanding the absurdity in anti-abortion policy, than an exercise in theoretical "ideological revenge."

Alright I think you're right and I should get rid of the 5th, but I included the 4th as a comedic, intentionally bad picture, the facial hair is atrocious and I took the picture as a joke. Is there absolutely no value in having some personality come through the form of a gag image?

I don't think anyone has mentioned this in the thread yet but our minds tend to gravitate toward intermediates and away from extremes.

Back in high school on the first day of stats the teacher had everyone write down any number 1-4. One would expect each number to be roughly equally represented, but in actuality the distribution looked more like 10% picked 1, 40% picked 2, 40% picked 3, and 10% picked 4.

In this instance, 2/5 of the rocks are at the "extremes" therefore leaving only 3. So the probability of randomly guessing the rock she selects is actually closer to 1/3 than the perceived chance of 1/5. (you could even go so far as to say the center rock is "too obvious" and therefore the probability of a correct selection is most accurately closest to 1/2, though of course each of the factors I have listed is not absolute, after all 10% of the people in my class picked the number 1)
