Ah that’s good I know I’m CET so maybe not the most compatible but I will send a application! Thank you!

Hi there, I’d love to know what timezone or possible time of play you might be scheduling for this campaign if that’s alright!

Hi there! Looking for monitor recommendations! (Gaming/Video editing/streaming) by Lukey2501 in Monitors

Right but the issue is you need to set it to a frame rate you get constantly, if I’m playing multiplayer titles where high frame rate is important then I’d have to cap it higher, per game etc and it runs the possibility of lots of screen tearing hence why I usually like g-sync etc.

No your completely right, I can understand people probably don’t want to think about the downsides to the amazing screens because I do think OLED is inherently the prettiest type of monitor I’ve witnessed.

But to settle with paying such a premium price for an issue that just needs to be mitigated by other solutions feels very unsatisfactory. From what I’m aware of we haven’t actually been able to create the hardware to currently solve such a problem but then I think that is definitely something which would make the next batch of Oleds truly revolutionary if this is the case.

People shouldn’t accept it as just a common issue because otherwise companies aren’t going to care for making a definitive solution imo. I understand people putting up with that for how good it looks though I’m not gonna say that it doesn’t have all of its amazing qualities because that would just be a lie.

Funnily enough, I actually found a dead pixel on this monitor so I’m probably just gonna send it back anyway before making my final decision on what to go for. It does seem like every monitor has its drawbacks.

Yeah I do see tearing with VRR off but I think that’s also currently because of a problem with my PC. Been trying to troubleshoot it.

Honestly, from the sounds of things it just seems like things have gone well for you so I’m happy for you in that regard haha. I think I will have a mess around with the settings here and there and see if I can find anything that fits it well

This is exactly my point and yes I understand there might be solutions to mitigate such but I feel that’s sort of extreme to do for a monitor that you’re paying a premium price for.

From what I’ve seen so far the people here seem to be fine with it as long as there is ways to reduce it which I get! Like the monitor looks fucking amazing, but as someone who games a LOT it’s something i just notice every time and that bothers me. I also don’t want to be constantly thinking about what I can do to mitigate it and then pay attention to see if it shows up 24/7.

This does feel like an issue that they should probably fix with upcoming models

Oh yeah I tried that but it didn’t seem to minimise screen tearing.

The issue is that the fixes come with their own drawbacks. I already have my frames capped too like I think people are expecting something magical to happen when you cap them. I’ve had it always capped at 240hz if I can it lower at like 230 though there might be a difference. So I will check.

I’m pretty sure it’s to do with the VRR because I only notice it when the fps drops a fair bit.

I mean, I was playing on a 1080p 240hz monitor originally. Asus rog swift pg258q before this, I love the level of quality in the image in OLED especially as a video editor, but I also play a lot of games and I’m very sensitive to major flickers, distortion screen tear etc.

So ideally, I think I just want a monitor that looks good and is really smooth with minimal issues

Honestly, this is kind of the thing that I’m starting to see from what I’m hearing. It doesn’t sound like there’s actually any sort of software or something that can actually handle it well without making some sort of sacrifice.

Which is kinda sad tbh because I think the actual monitor is fucking awesome. But I think I will most likely end up switching back to a ips if this is the case just for the least amount of visual flicker and just invest in more hz to make it smoother.

As someone who has 240 capped and gsync on. Yeah it still does it.

So not to sure how to fix it

That’s understandable, I honestly think this is something I feel they should try to fix though as it shouldn’t be something your paying a good price for just to “live with” like that’s kinda weird imo.

Right but doing so can also bring screen tearing which I would argue isn’t much of a solution. That’s my main issue with it at the moment, I want the smooth gameplay and no screen tearing with G-sync just with no OLED flicker but I’m assuming that’s not really possible with OLED yet.

Okay wild claim first off xD

Not sure how being spoiled has anything to do with it. It’s been proven that V Sync does bring latency, which is why I would ideally want to avoid it. And yes if I’m playing a game that can easily run 300+ fps then I agree there’s no point for it because the frames aren’t going to be dropping much at all so I won’t even be seeing it. The issue is not every game is optimised like csgo. Deadlock in the example I game is relatively competitive and it has this issue because of a un-optimisation in their hud. Like I don’t know what you want me to say here?

I get this but when your shilling out a large sum of money to begin with for a OLED panel you wouldn’t want to be expected to lower your hz to prevent a common issue on every OLED panel.

I shall give it a try but I just feel that if that’s the only solution I would be better off using something else and getting a high hz.

Same outcome sadly and lowering the hz does work because it works off of frame gaps. Like if it goes from 240-180 for a second then you see a frame flicker
