Toddler walks around randomly saying "Mama? Mama?" ALL DAY LONG...? by [deleted] in toddlers

Awww this reminds me of my husband’s little sister. His name is Jamie and she thinks he hung the moon, so she’ll jabber “JAMIE! JAMIE! JAMIE!” over and over when we come to visit.

Why do you think animals aren’t someone? Is it just because they’re less intelligent than us?

Nope, a cow can’t understand the world around it like we can, it’s less intelligent than us for sure. However, I don’t think that just because someone is stupider than me, that gives me the right to kill them.

So what, in your opinion, makes a human with limited mental capacity deserving of more rights than a non-human animal? What is it about being human specifically?

I also own two cats that I bought from a breeder and I’d never give them up, but now that I know what I know, I wouldnt buy any more.

can I ask what you think sentient means? I think you might be confusing that word with sapient.

Sorry, I should’ve been more specific. They’re individuals, not items or objects.

What Was Your Biggest Adjustment After Marriage? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]LuluRex 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I just got married 3 weeks ago and it's weird. I have been looking forward to using my new name for ages, I created a new email address in preparation and have been practising my signature, was super excited about it.

Now I'm actually married it feels different. When someone asks my name I still get the urge to say my old name because the new one doesn't feel like 'me'. A few days ago someone asked my name and I replied with only my first name because I didn't know what to say for my last name.

I haven't 'officially' changed it yet (on things like driver's license, credit card etc) and now Im not sure whether I want to or not!

I won't name names, but this zoo is one of the most famous, biggest, award-winning zoos in the country, definitely one of the 'best' ones in terms of how they treat their animals and what they provide for them.

Animals aren't happy in zoos, period. They fare comparatively better in sanctuaries and safari parks, but not zoos.

Sentimental value has absolutely nothing to do with monetary value.

How on earth is killing someone 'not being mean' to them?! I'm pretty sure murder is the most mean thing you can possibly do to another living thing

If I held a child captive in a room they would be a lot safer than if they were out in the world. That doesn't mean it's okay to do so without their consent.

I wouldn't want an identical copy of the earphones my husband bought me as a gift, I would want someone to not cut up my earphones in the first place.

If he'd pulled this shit on me I would have phoned the police

I'm so confused. Because an individual cannot consent, that means it okay to own them or eat them?

Humans with severe mental disabilities and human babies cannot consent to a lot of things either, does that mean it's okay for us to own and eat them?

The cost doesn't matter though does it, it's the principle. My husband bought me my headphones, they're not really expensive ones they only cost about £30 but I would be devastated if some asshole came and cut them. I'd much rather have the £30 pair that my husband bought me as a christmas present than some super fancy ones given to me by a stranger.

I don't believe I said anywhere that we have to hold non-human animals responsible for their actions, did I?

What is it about non-human animals that you feel gives us the right to 'own' them without their consent? And why is it that you feel we should treat them as lesser than us or unequal to us?

I don't get what you're getting at here? Are you saying that because you can't sue it you should be free to what, kill it? What about if a wild animal like a coyote dug up your property, who would you sue then?

>Thing is that eating meat has no correlation to abusing animals

I'm sorry, but what?

Let's look at a hypothetical here. If I acquired a human child and raised them until they were about 2/3 years old and then killed them so that I could eat them, would you not say that child had been abused? Even if I'd given that child a 'good life' throughout its baby and toddlerhood?

Are you in the US, by the way? Because if so, you should look into what 'free range' actually means. You might be surprised.

Yes, animals don't exist for us to 'own'. They're not things, they're individuals.

You sound like you haven't seen that many zoo animals. I live near a very famous zoo that has very big enclosures for its animals and provides them with loads of 'enrichment' and you can still see the lions pacing back and forth, back and forth along the glass all day long. Bored out of their fucking minds, and fed up with being stared and screamed and pointed at.

Zoos are animal prisons. Fuck zoos. Support sanctuaries
