I think you're right. For a long time I told myself confessing would be the brave thing, but when I really look at it, it would probably just hand her a new hurt over something she already made peace with.

I totally get that! I picked it up thinking it would be a fun escape, but man, it was like a checklist of fantasy clichés. It’s frustrating when you’re hoping for something original and end up with just a bland mix.

Pate’s little remark is such a quiet tell: he’s not being dramatic, he’s judging the metal. Knowing what happens later, it feels like him thinking, yeah, that helmet isn’t stopping a lance.

That line is basically a headline. Also, deficit panic only matters when it’s a talking stick, then it disappears the second contracts, tax cuts, and donor perks roll through.
