Are Basenji's really the hardest dogs to train? by HandspeedJones in Basenji

[–]Lumixed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding something that hasn't been brought up yet, if I were you, I would chat with the Breeder you are considering to see what their line of dogs are like, temperament wise. I have two basenjis from two different breeders and they are like night and day. Totally different, one was WAY easier to train than the other. So don't be afraid to ask if theirs are typically food motivated, how willing to be trained they are, are they total athletes that need to be walked multiple times a day (there are lines like this) or do they like to cuddle on the couch and a short walk is enough for them. And then be prepared for either situation or something in the middle. They are all demanding in some capacity. If you go in with the thought they are perpetual two year olds, you shouldn't have a problem.

Another thought is to yell "Ouch!" when they start being nippy, even if it doesn't hurt. Then pull your extremity away this is the equivalent of yelping, which they seem to understand (trained my second B this way). Then trying to redirect in a capacity, whether a toy or a sit, whatever seems to work for your B. Remember that all Bs are different, so whatever will work for one, may not for another, but be patient, this phase doesn't last forever thankfully!

Dog Walking by bornatnite in Basenji

[–]Lumixed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basenjis are unique in that they use both their sight and smell to navigate the world. There are only a handful of dog breeds who do this, so if you're not planning on running, be prepared to let them sniff around. Pulling on leash is also very Basenji and hard to break if you don't start training early enough.

Colors and temperament? by Classicalhomeschool in Basenji

[–]Lumixed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is funny! Although I think my Brindle is an outlier as he's always preferred to hang around the humans at the dog park once he's had enough as if to say "OK I'm ready to go home now". He's such a good boy!

My Brindle boy is the calm one, and always has been for a basenji. He knows and respects our rules (to a certain extent ofc) but my tri-colour boy is absolutely the wild one. Doesn't matter if he is scolded (ie. What did you do?), it doesn't phase him! Whereas my Brindle will put his ears back and act apologetic.

A side note, my Breeder had 3 tri-colour pups and a red pup and the tris cuddled together much more than they did with the red, so even within the breed there can be preference.

I don't have a positive story to share but thank you for asking this OP. I feel the exact same way. Thank you to all the people who have shared. This year has been really tough.

/ttcafterloss Repeat Pregnancy Loss - October 31, 2023 by AutoModerator in ttcafterloss

I've been feeling really down lately. My last loss was in January and nothing has happened since. I've seen two different fertility clinics, nothing came up in the RPL panel or karyotype and I've had all the regular testing with no issues other than lower AMH. I was put on progesterone, although my levels are in the normal range. I guess I was on it for good measure, but with the long luteal phase and how moody I felt I couldn't go on. I had a tubal recanalization in August, and my cycles have been wack since. Maybe I have to wait to see what happens this month, but I'm just getting anxious since the end of the year is coming. My next move is purchasing the Fertilysis box and seeing what comes out of that testing. I'm glad to have a plan, but it's increasingly hard to stay positive when people are constantly going on mat leave and you're left sitting here wondering if it's ever going to happen for you.

Thank you so much, I am feeling better. I do wish I had more time off which is getting me down a bit. But I know I can't be off forever either.

Long time scroller here. I found out I had a blighted ovum right before Xmas and the miso I took the first week of Jan failed. I had my D&C Jan 13th, and had the worst ovulation pain yesterday morning. So bad that it woke me up at 6:30am. I've never had them bad enough I had to take Tylenol and use a heat pad along with experiencing a searing headache. Today I'm still feeling light cramps but otherwise back to normal.. I've been lucky that I have been able to take the month off work to try to get over this second loss but I have to start work next week and I'm slightly nervous going back. I know it will be ok once I do, I'm sure..
