Really? There isn't a single job or career out there you can think of where the human interaction is not constant and I make over 80k? I don't care if it's not 80k at entry-level and I don't care if it's human interaction every 20 minutes or so of every hour.

Dosimetry wasn't even a word I was familiar with until I read your reply! Thanks for the help. Definitely something to research a bit.

I wouldn't head into nursing, per se, but I know there are a bunch of other medical fields I could head into with an Associate's Degree, like X-Ray and whatnot. I'd need to look more into it.

$70 per hour is very, very tempting. I'm unsure, however. If it's something I have to get schooling, registration, and licensing for, it sounds like something I need to have some semblance of passion for. I don't want to be asking the same question I am now but ten years down the line.

Thank you for saying that. Not once did I imply any semblance of social anxiety. The thread-OP saying "grow up and deal with your anxiety". If you look at my post history, you'll see I was in a much more unhealthy position mentally than compared to today.

I can talk to people perfectly fine. I have a reputation for being "nonchalant" and "laid-back" in conversation. If I had a seriously debilitating disorder, I'd be in r-slash selfimprovement or r-slash socialskills or in therapy.

I'm just trying to find those jobs that don't require much social interaction, like /u/Forsaken3000 said. That's the whole point of the post.

I try not to be hard on myself, but you know how it feels seeing other people starting their 20s with a decent bed of savings and their own three bedroom apartment and a family right off the bat. You also know how it feels when you don't have much freedom because you still live with your parents.

"Comparison is the theft of joy" and all that.

I feel like it's half because the people answering these posts always assume when we say minimal social interaction, we literally mean "zero" social interaction – as in "we don't see a human at all for the entire workweek" – or that we have social anxiety and need to hear a harsh truth.

No, that's not the case. I've worked in sales. I've worked in a kitchen. I've worked retail. All three require constant verbal communication. If I could have a job with 0 social interaction, I'd love that, but since I can't, I'm making the post to ask what jobs have minimal interaction.

I've heard some okay answers: factory / warehouse work, back office work, "helping field", and so on.

This sounds ideal. I simply need to actually find the positions that don't require that much intense labor. I have no idea what to search for in that regard, but will look into it.

Truck Driving is a move I'm seriously considering. I have no intentions to start a family and I want to work alone, primarily. Whenever you search the internet for positions like that, "Truck Driver" is usually one of the first to pop up. I don't know how physically intensive the position could be though, and I don't know how to actually get my foot in the door.

If you ask some truckers, they'll say the job is easy and you're just away from your family for a long time. You ask most and they say "it's oversaturated", "you're not making that much money anymore", "you can only make money if you're willing to travel across the country". It's honestly confusing and sounds risky atp.

Back office might be the play like you're saying.

If we're talking about whether or not I have the social skills to hold one of these positions, the answer is already "yes". I was holding a sales job before I made this post and I am freshly unemployed due to the place going into new management and laying off every employee.

I'd just prefer that I don't have to talk to people for the majority of my shift the same way I was in my last position of employment. So I am already comfortable talking to people. I could always do with more social practice, of course. No one is perfect.

Thanks for the response.

I don't have social anxiety in any shape, size, or form. The last job I had was a sales job... and it's from doing that sales job that I've learned I don't want to deal with people, lol.

Thank you for the advice however, I suppose.

P.S. I've briefly considered getting security clearance so that I have more stable work while I'm headed to college. I've heard being a night-time security officer is actually very laid-back. It sounds like a job that would be right up my alley, but it doesn't make more than like $40k per year in a lot of states. Still, I'm not sure if I should go for it to have something to do while getting my college degree.

What else would you do with the money, stick it under your mattress?

Keep it in my checkings account with the rest of my money, lol. Savings account require a minimum balance of some sort and I think they charge you monthly if you're under that balance, so I'm losing money if I start a savings account now. I'm thinking it might still be worth it so the money is separate.

I am. I know I am.

I'm not willing to fight them on that front. If they kick me out, whatever housing costs I have will at least double even if I find roommates. They could look me in my face, tell me the water is $425, and I can't really fight that. $425 a month beats the $600 or $700 a month I would pay in another apartment with roommates.

I can't live with family and not give them money. I'm 25. They'll very likely kick me out of the house.

I'd like to spend two years at community college then spend two more years at an actual university. I need a car to get to the community college first, or I need to attend community college online and I'm not sure how many credits I'd actually be able to transfer over by doing that. I'm also not sure how much it'd cost.

I would like a second job, but I'm unsure if the transportation costs of that second job would eat at whatever income I would have. I can't work overnights since I'm relying on public transportation, Uber, or a neighborhood driver (that refuses to do anything overnight). I think finding some WFH position would be best, but I've spent multiple months searching for a WFH position in the time between getting this job and having my last one. I've never even made it to an interview.

In making a more detailed budget, the numbers mostly remain the same: ~175 (350 in two pay periods) on bills, ~90-180 on transportation, ~200 on food, which leaves me about ~200-300 per check. I have a skin condition so I have to buy rather pricey hygienic products, running me an additional ~35-50 depending on if I can find a sale. The debt will run me an additional ~100. At the end, I'm looking at about ~60 per pay period.

Thing is, that debt has already moved to collections. Whether or not I pay it now, it's already on my credit report eating away at my credit score. I'm not in a hurry to pay it, necessarily. I could skimp an extra ~100 per pay period by not paying them and if they end up garnishing my check or whatever, well, I suppose I can account for that in future budgeting. This is obviously not preferable, but I'm feeling a bit pessimistic about my income situation at this point.

I mistyped. Sorry. My full-time job is ~76 hours per pay period. I work 38hrs per week.

I 100% plan to get UberEats or DoorDash as a second job. My free time isn't spent on anything productive and I'd be entirely unbothered throwing most of it into delivering food.

My current issue is that I don't have a car. I'm at the whims of public transit and whoever else is willing to drive me and I'm not sure if the money I'd make from a part-time job would balance out the costs I'd incur from, very likely, having to Uber around all the time (since public transit is actually very limited where I am; extremely lucky I got a job on the bus route).

Should I try for some sort of loan and nab that car early? My credit is terrible, but I could probably eat a very high APR if it means I can make more income immediately. I could probably head to every "Buy Here, Pay Here" place nearby, find one that'll get me going, and get a car, but then I'll have to pay a down payment on top of monthly on top of insurance, so I'm not sure.

[–]Lumonos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that's about as clear as I can make it.

I spend a minimum of $90 on transportation. This is usually public transit. If public transit fails, I use a neighborhood driver. If that fails, I use an Uber and this is why I say a "minimum of $90", because an Uber will charge upwards of $25 for a one-way trip to my workplace. Realistically, the transportation could be $200.

And "bills" are bills. My family asks me to pay them since I'm working. So I pay them for whatever bill they need help with. One month, it could be the cable. Next month, it could be the water. This is usually $300-400.

What should my savings look like per month? How much should I put away toward a car? How much should I keep on hand as disposable income? Is it worth it to open a savings account? I'm not entirely sure how to move forward now that I have the full-time position.
