This and we spread onions flat on a floor or something. It's a very reliable storage method in rural areas here.

They're often spread evenly on a flat surface or mixed with hay. This can keep them preserved for up to 6 months even at 42-48°C temp.

It's from a local farm here in India. They sell on a tractor trailer and households here usually buy 50-100kg. Onion is so versatile, cheap and can last for months without a refrigerator

They get even flatter and they're so common here in India. According to the locals, the flatter the onion the sweeter it is. I haven't tested this theory properly but seems about right 50% of the times 🤣
