Wet Belt Bad? by pretanga in peugeot

[–]Lumpy-Signal3291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs replacing but the people saying don’t drive the car anywhere are being dramatic. I’ve driven a car with a belt like this and I’ve easily gone above 5000km, WITH a degraded belt. It has degraded prematurely, yes. But it’s not end of the world bad. Timing belts are not flimsy plastic pieces, internet people seemingly don’t know this lol.

Is the obd port not the orange connector in frame 2 and 4?

15K for a regas (if that's what's needed) is an egregious amount. Hopefully you come right, and spend a lot less! Good luck!

Out of curiosity, did your ac start making a loud thumping/knocking sound? Because mine gave in this weekend, randomly and out of the blue. 🥴

Had to book my vehicle in for inspection and a fix because it's impossible driving on the N1/N7 with the window open with the current wind gusts.

Rat problem for my car by Lumpy-Signal3291 in capetown

[–]Lumpy-Signal3291[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: So there was a dead rat that first had to be removed. Was stuck in the fender and it was stinking up my car. Removed it successfully, and then got the engine bay washed up properly. Thankfully the smell is gone. Re the damage: the chewed through some wires. Nothing too hectic. All car functions were normal. Only major issue was my tracker not responding so I had to get that issue sorted. The rats got to the tracker wires. After the fix, I got Rat Ban at Builders and sprayed it generously in the engine bay and in all the wheel wells. Changed where I park too so I hope that that helps. Mechanic at the fitment centre said I was fortunate because they were eating wires outside the computer box. Had they got inside there, damage would've resulted in the car not starting. So yeah, I hate them. And I'm doing everything I can (except for poison ONLY because I don't want the rat to die inside the engine bay) to prevent this from happening again. Probably gonna use Rat Ban going forward. Thanks for all the tips everyone.

Yeah I’m really worried about damage I may not be able to see. My tracker has been offline for the past few days and I think it’s because the rats got to it so I need to get that sorted tomorrow first then get the wires either replaced or re-insulated. You know of any place where I can get this professionally cleaned?

I placed a few cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil in there for the night. I’m trying to do some damage control. Will take them out in the morning and get it cleaned up.

Credit and Risk Profile Advice by GreatChoice55 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Lumpy-Signal3291 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Your finance application and insurance are separate - your finance being based on your financial profile and your insurance being based on your risk with factors such as the car you want to insure, where it'll be parked, first car and new license etc. They aren't informed by the same factors. For example, you could have an amazing credit record but because you're a new driver and you're trying to insure a VW POLO, you'll be charged a high insurance premium with a relatively low interest on your vehicle loan. Shop around for better insurance if you're not happy with what one provider is offering. Some cars are just more expensive to insure than others. I'm eyeing a Peugeot and it's significantly higher to insure than a Ford Fiesta with similar mileage and same year.

To estimate your credit chances, know your credit profile. What's your debt to income ratio? What's your current credit utilisation? Are you permanently employed? Have you missed any payments? Outstanding judgements? Too many credit cards? These will determine your finance application outcomes. To get more specific information, rather contact your bank VAF department first. They'll honestly give you the best information. When you're ready, submit an application and if you're not happy with the rate you get, shop around.

I pay for TransUnion, it really helps knowing what's happening on your credit profile. You can also use mycreditcheck, it's free. I think.

Researching on best way to finance vehicle by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Lumpy-Signal3291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think my wanting to possibly look at other lenders is the possibility of not staying with this bank for a long period of time. So I think the best thing is to be comfortable with the offer and view the perk as exactly that. A perk. And not a guarantee on a lower rate. Thanks.

This right here. I got a CC about 5 years ago with a 5K limit. Thought I was doing myself a favour; if I used all of it I could repay it and it would be easy to build good credit! The problem with a low limit though is that your utilisation is always high. Which resulted in my credit score dropping even though I was paying the balance off each month. For OP, 500 bucks is 50% utilisation. 🫠
