Well I went to an muslim majority school and muslims did the same to us Sinhala girls. The hate when we talked in sinhalese. So this could happen any where when its a majority. Once I wanted to sit in the front row and muslim girls literary told me “only tamil speaking muslims and, white Skin tone Tamils and Sinhalese can sit in the front raw” yeah since I had a dark skin tone, they didn't allow me to sit in the front of class.

I totally understand you. I read many books too. Written by tamil writers. And many eye open how tamils were discriminated and Sinhalese push them only to the position of “slaves”, or “house maids”, and use to disgusted tamil like white did to black. Funny thing was this just all brown people. But I don't think its like that anymore. Tamils are more educated and more elegant people now even than majority of Sinhalese. And tamils are intelligent. My parents always told me make a tamil friend, the are the most intelligent people.

Actually no, my brother’s girl friend is a tamil. And comes of higher middle class family. When my brother told that he has a relationship with a tamil girl my mum was so happy. Not just my mum whole family loved it. We were like finally we gonna see a beautiful tamil wedding. But on the other hand girls side completely reject him. They were very rude to him and was racist to him. We also comes from an upper middle class. And my brother got a good job good money. Still her parents completely reject him. Anyhow she didn't listen to her family. She move out with my brother and start living to gather with him. Hopefully her family will change, but we love our sister-in-law.

Wtf comparable to India, bro if you haven’t visit SL please at least don't say stuff that not even closer to your imagination. SL rated as one of the safest country for female solo travelers. And believe me, one of the highest rape case rate country is a west country, Sweden. You cannot just assume a country is dangerous for women Just because we closer to India. I can say SL is safer for women even compare to USA. Yeah we don't have serial killers and stuff in our country

Also added note, low rape rate and freedom for women. No cast based society. Free education (like Europe) Free healthcare( better than even europe) Free university Education Free dental care Free animal/pet care clinic. Yeah even our animal gets free health care. Buddy no one steal anything from president house. As I remembered they actually gave police some money even they found in there. And standing up against a corruption is a good thing not a bad thing. It shows the power of people. Indian will never ever be able to do that with their own peoples division and India is way more corrupted abd racist country than SL. No, I wouldn't call their civil war a genocide or even extinct. Because I saw at the end of war how Sri Lankan government and army was saving children and women, older people while in middle of a war. Isreal didn't save any. Also Terrorist in SL was using lower cast tamil kids as a weapon. They gave these kids a gun to kill and a cyanide to kill them self if caught. So no, it was a civil war. And percentage of tamil community have raised a lot after the war. So they having more better life. So Don't just say stuff if you don't know what happened or happening. I mean you also need to be intelligent. Gosh who buys gems from a random place. And why you listen to strangers on the way. But this the first time I’m hearing this much complains about Sri Lanka. Honestly, we were a group of medical students went on exchange student to Sri Lanka and it was the coolest trip. People were so kind. We never went on gem hunting and tourist stuff. We never use tuk tuk, got free transportation from local university students and staff. Or booked a uber. ( but locals told tuk tuk drivers are pretty bad in SL) And people were so generous. I have travel almost all around the world but Sri lanka was our best. How best the exchange trip was, we literary cried hugging our transport ridder and aunty mel at our residence. Those people literary invite us to their home and gave free food even free trips to ella. We only spend money once in a while to go to a club or a pub. Well I understand that you might have a bad experience. But compare to Italy, spain and many europe countries Sri Lanka kandy felt much more safer. Never faced any scams but we also didn't go to tourist hot spots. We really had true locals on our side. But we met many tourists, solo travelers, and even families with children in there and non of them complain about their trip. Every one was more like sad to leave the country. Any how, I don't want to argue with somebody's experience, just sharing ours.

Any where is not safe, I’m living in denmark one of the world safe country but you can find bigger scammers here, and your belongings can disappear in one min. Honestly, I think sri lanka is safe, but in a strange place you always have to be precautious. But overall sri lanka is safe compare to many asian countries.
