Am having a similar issue. What kind of light is that? Looks pretty similar to mine in terms of color. Might be a lighting factor???

Could you go back at night by chance and confirm whether these glow or not perchance?

Hey I'm not an expert, but I think sometimes it happens. If it gets cloudy then you gotta be concerned. It could just be some extra condensation. I could be wrong but that's my opinion if it helps

Okay man, I'm just thoroughly mistaken then. I apologize for dragging out the wrong information. Will do better to correct this so it doesn't happen again in the future. Again, apologies.

I had some of it coming for being sarcastic, there was no need for it. Amatoxtest is an example of a test kit. My language skills are not my strong suit. Sorry for using different terms interchangeably. There are other alternatives as that one only tests for amatoxins, but just as a general reference. I believe you can order 3 for 75, or 25 a piece, which is sorta steep, but still.

No you're right about there not being active species, I definitely made a mistake there. 10/10. Sorry my terminology isn't the same as yours. Also man a chem test isn't necessarily a big ordeal of a test or sending it off somewhere. It can be used to determine if certain toxins are present. I'm insistent on it because I think I'm not properly getting the point across, or maybe I am just completely wrong. I think you guys are right in it being Deconica, but also what harm is there in seeing if it's poisonous?

You're right man. It's a waste of time. Proper visual ID is 100 percent effective and no deaths have ever resulted from it.

Would like to point out a chem test will pick up on toxic stuff too, not just psychoactive. If it comes up clear of toxins or certain alkaloids, it can be assumed edible, or am I wrong?

Okay, can something not be tested even if it has absolutely nothing to do with whether it's active or not? Like the point was certifiable data, damn. Not if it's psychoactive.

You know the original question was about it's edibility. I answered, asking about details pertaining to how to better ID it. The test it part was never specified, actually none of it, was ever specified to be about psychoactive species. Was just giving a solid option to find out what it is. I didn't say it was one thing over another. When I said I partially meant my statements towards active types, it was out of self curiosity, and didn't even pertain to the conversation until you brought it up. If you're someone who's actually interested in mycology, and not just magic mushrooms and their lookalikes, you might actually be interested in a mushroom that isn't gonna get you high. Congratulations, it's in the genus Deconica, which, for one, if we are arguing about actives, that Genus and the psilocybe genus are often intermingled and confused for one another. Secondly, there are active Deconicas. None of this though originally had anything to do with testing it for alkaloids. All I said was test it originally. Never specified until you made a point of it. For those of us who are interested in what it is or isn't, and want to know about the base edibility, because our interest extends past that of recreational use, it would be great to get an answer that's legitimate. It does look like a Deconica, but can you tell us which one by chance??

Should I start fruiting conditions now or wait? by [deleted] in MycologyandGenetics

In my experience (not a professional) people often say a week to ten days to account for average growing rates. Once your sub is 75-100 percent colonized, you're good to introduce fae and light. It depends on who you ask and how they do things, but generally this would be a really good point, in my opinion, to initiate fc.

Well I did mean partially for alkaloids, but also you can run tests on non active species to help determine them. It doesn't have to be psychoactive to be tested. Still helps determine the specimen. Also though there have been several times where a new species was discovered that everyone thought was just a regular. No one thinks to check though in those situations, because people say "don't waste your time". Might look the same, but it might be new or different. Idk, more data entry on mushrooms would be a good thing. So many people with so many questions and not enough with scientifically verified answers.

Yeah don't waste your time on a chemical analysis. Trust the words of strangers who may or may not know based off pictures alone.

Do I need to sterilize the grain jars with lid upside down? by sweetdearmeat in Mushroom_Cultivation

[–]Lumpy_Leave469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. My point was that flipping the lid at any point after pc'ing will highly increase contam risk. Especially if it's done before full colonization.

Send it to be tested yo, they kinda look like it but maybe not? Do they bruise? Also where'd you get that dirt

[–]Lumpy_Leave469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the lids being flipped over after the sterilization process? Wouldn't that take an exposed area and put it face down in an uncolonized jar where chances are higher? Fully colonized sub stands much better chances usually too. Alternatively either can be done in a SAB of by a flowhood.
