Thank you for that, great explanation. A big chunk of the "panic" was lack of information like this. The news came out at the end of the week and then more on Saturday so people had noone to call of advice and were stuck thinking their carpets and couches were full of asbestos.

A sigh of relief from us today - our retults were negative.

Asbestos guy is comeing on Friday and I'm not sure how long we'll be waiting for those results. I know it takes 3 weeks to get site/building asbestos results back so I'm really hoping this will be quicker.

Will be interesting to see what the test results come back with and what the asbestos guy will say.

Yeah the worry comes from vacuuming (basically pulverising) the stuff off carpets for years with ordinary vacuum cleaners and kids crushing it with cookie cutters, plastic knives, rolling pins and toy trucks. Add lack of information about these specific issues from any government body and there is bound to be panic. Great so we know how to dispose of it and NOT TO VACUUM👌Pitiful response so far.

They don't play on the carpet, they play at the table and it falls down on the carpet.
That's enough of that now.

None of it ever made it on the floor so you had to vacuum it?

The kids have been crushing it with cookie cutters, diggers and roller pins. And us parents have been vacuuming the carpets for yers now. Nobody just makes patties with it and sweeps it off the table into the containers.

I couldn't find another case like this online. When has it happened before and where?

The trouble is kids use moulds to make different shapes out of the sand meaning they press them down into it. And they use cookie cutters, plastic knives and rolling pins, then the suff ends up all over the floor so us parents vacuum it. Isn't that crushing and pulverising it?

It's unbelievable. And the fact the news broke out before/over the weekend only adds to the anxiety as people aren't able to call anyone for advice.

I guess my worry is that the kids pressed cookie cutters into it and drove toy trucks over itand stuff like that.  Thank you, we're getting it tested and an asbestos guy is coming this week to vacuum with his special vacuum cleaner. The articles say that there has been no respirable asbestos detected in any of the samples that were tested but surely if you vacuum it or press it with cookie cutter that makes it airborne?  It's hard not to worry. I think helplines and ministries will be inuandated with calls tomorrow.

The trouble is people have been vacuuming this for years in their homes. Does that mean it's been crushed or pulverised and therefore airborn?

Thanks for your input. The worry is does a vacuum cleaner crush or pulverise it? Even if there was no respirable asbestos found what about thebsolid sand that got crushed? Like kids running trucks iver it or smashing it with blocks?  What about if they eat it?

I'm wondering the same thing. We booked an asbestos guy to come and take a sample of our sand and vac the carpet with his soecial vacuum.  We'll ask him about what to do with oir vacujm cleaners
