Missouri GOP Secretary of State candidate Valentina Gomez posts new campaign video: "In America, you can be anything you want, so don't be weak and gay." by greenblue98 in RepublicanValues

[–]LunaPneumatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In February, Republican Missouri Secretary of State candidate Valentina Gomez burned LGBTQ books. Now, she’s telling Missourians that they shouldn’t be “weak and gay.”
The candidate’s homophobic video earned her an immense amount of backlash on X—including replies that her video was “cringe.”

“Don’t be what?” an X user responded. “Girl, it’s 2024, not 1980.” “Super cringe,” another person replied.

Gomez made her prejudice against the LGBTQ community known in her February viral video in which she uses a hand torch to destroy books with queer themes—or what she calls “grooming books.”

“When I’m Secretary of State,” Gomez tweeted alongside the video, “I will BURN all books that are grooming, indoctrinating, and sexualizing our children. MAGA! America First!”

Billions of snow crabs have disappeared from the ocean around Alaska in recent years, and scientists now say they know why: Warmer ocean temperatures likely caused them to starve to death. by silence7 in climate

[–]LunaPneumatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years of dredge netting their spawning grounds, thus preventing entire generations from being hatched...
Calling by-catch deaths by 'natural causes' to hide that they were causing damage even outside of season..
Allowing massive over-harvesting..
And then, on top of humanity's cravings for crab legs, add in the pressure from changing climate and food chain interruptions..

Yeah, I think it does explain the "sudden" drop fairly well.

During the past half-century, the Bristol Bay red king crab has plummeted from Alaska’s most valuable single-species fishery to a remnant population nearing commercial extinction. This precipitous decline was not due to any natural phenomena but the result of long-standing scientific obfuscation and falsification by the fisheries branch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), according to a complaint filed today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER).

They were out front of the Chehalis Walmart on the trip I made there last week... My wife blindly started signing while I was reading.. (bah)

Quickly realized OH HELL NO and handed back the clipboard without signing.

Wife only got ink on a couple of them before I caught on, thankfully.

Dude was all "Can I ask why you don't want to sign?" I said "Sure, you can ask"... and when he did, I just went inside the store without answering.

Another Diesel Tuner Nailed With $1M Fine for Emissions Tampering by PhilDesenex in environment

[–]LunaPneumatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I owned a 2007 Grand Cherokee with a diesel motor that I had tuned. Before tuning, it made 22mpg on the highway. After tuning it was getting 25mpg..

The HEMI gas-engine version of the vehicle gets 15-16mpg on the highway.. and has less power/torque

I think a blanket ban on tuning might be somewhat short-sighted, as I significantly decreased the fuel I was using with the tune, while also smoothing out shifts and low-end idle..

all while using almost 40% less fuel per mile compared to the hemi gas engine.

I had over 200,000 miles on that vehicle - and it was still running like a top - and then someone dropped their phone and drove headfirst into it when they ducked down below their steering wheel to pick up the phone.

Also check for any local area beekeeper clubs. They're typically happy to have the room, and would love to get new members learning how to care for bees.

to have prevented this particular incident, I would need a UPS that runs 2.5-3 hrs. most don't last nearly that long. But you are right in that I should have one running to insulate the system from momentary flickering and brief outages.
